Data centers aren't huge employers, but they do employ some people. They obviously create tons of construction jobs upfront.
They've just been made into some kind of boogeyman because of power and water consumption, and people thinking AI will take all of our jobs. The world is changing rapidly, and it's going to happen whether we like it or not.

Local governments not properly spending the money they do have by hiring incompetent and/or unqualified contractors that do a shitty job or local governments simply not allocating sufficient funds to infrastructure outright.
The schools, that’s all on the parents.

More white collar jobs that retains our college graduates.
Everything is industrial. Which is good but at the same time a little more diversity outside of that sector would help.
Finance, IT, medical and manufacturing are three that come to mind for me.
Louisiana should aim to attract major companies here. Look at all the big companies leaving California looking for more tax friendly homes. Many end up in Texas. Louisiana should look at that as an example and imitate that formula.
Oil and Gas is king down here. always will be but the drop off to the second sector shouldn’t be that far.
I’d also add supply chain and warehousing logistics in there. Being right in the middle of the gulf coast with major ports and being a relatively centralized location in the country, Louisiana could be much more relevant in this front. Again look at Texas. Warehouses all over due to location. Louisiana isn’t that far away and can be a similar place.

It’s no secret that the state of Louisiana has never been the most business friendly place.
You can’t just say Louisiana couldn’t get them to come because I’m certain they could have if it weren’t for the outdated infrastructure and extremely corrupted government.

I’m confused on what you are trying to say here.
It is essentially saying if Louisiana were a wealthy well run state then we could get more influx of high quality jobs.
Basically if Louisiana weren’t Louisiana then it would be better.
Toyota looked at that same place and said nope. Meta 20 years later said yes. You have to start somewhere. Step by step increasing the tax base and outside money coming into the state and then you start getting those manufacturing plants and insurance companies etc etc.

Its not like we can pick and choose which multi billion dollar project is going to locate here. Texas and Mississippi are very happily scooping up those that we push away.

Shell gave LSU $25 million a few years ago. That's about as much as any of them are ever going to invest outside of their actual facilities. I'm not saing they don't contribute anything, obviously they pay property taxes and employ people. Just that it's not enough. Shell's global revenue was over $250 billion in 2025 alone. But you're happy to gargle them for a one-time $25 million donation? Do the boots taste any different when a corporation wears them?
