Saw an Ad on Facebook for Shell Norco and they said they had the highest entry pay for Process Operators in the State.
Seems like bullshite.
I would of thought the LNGs and Union plants would've paid more.

She'll Norco is union. Says highest entry pay. Valero Norco and LNG in Belle Chase both pay higher. They're pretty much at the top of the food chain. After that, it's basically a wash between the all the big guys. Actual pay may be a little higher at one, but benefits at another will equal it out. Dow, Oxy, Chevron, Marathon, Bayer, Cornerstone, CF.... All between $45-$55/hour with different compensation packages among 401k, medical, bonus, PTO. Pick your poison and make your $175k/year.

What’s the best path to one of these jobs?

Shell is actively trying to sell their chemical plants.

That is a useless metric.

Norco is both a refinery and chemical plant. Their chemical side is the only reason Norco wasn’t sold/shut down during Covid like Convent was

Norco physically has both assets, but different legal entities own them. Pieces / parts can be sold. Case in point, Shell Deer Park to Pemex but kept Chemical assets.
Shell sold many other of its plants outside US to redirect capital from weak return on assets manufacturing business, including changing world supply landscape on chemicals to LNG long assets.
Down to like 5 or less manufacturing assets in the world. US and Gulf Coast along with Trading hub still make upside quite attractive (relative to other markets).

Wherever it is you can bank it that there’s still some whining and bitching going on about their Netflix or cable TV not working when it’s a 90% chance it’s operator error.

PTech or other facility experience is basically required now
