As a dad this one hits hard. I lost a very good friend of mine to a drunk driving accident (he was a sober passenger) 2 years ago - he left behind a wife and 5 young children. We had just attended the NBA All Star game in NOLA that year a few months before he passed. I delivered a portion of his eulogy at his funeral. I’m not sure that even now I’m over it.

With Kobe’s death this just brings back those terrible memories. I can’t imagine what his wife and daughters are going through.

Not an impact on me, but Dale Earnhardt’s death was a big blow to NASCAR. Never the same.

Look, I’ll accept that I’m a bit narcissistic, but if these people aren’t a part of my inner circle of friends, or family members, it has little to no impact on me. I’m just like, “oh, that’s sad for them.”

Robin Williams hit me kind of hard (as much as the death of someone you don't know can) for a different reason. I had always considered the guy a hack and held Mrs. Doubtfire in particular derision.

It was strange seeing how many people really liked the guy and his work and how they were really affected by his suicide. Made me feel like a jerk.

Then I found out Doubtfire 2 was slated for production and was kind of something he was going to have to stoop to doing to pay the bills, and I felt really bad for Robin. I wondered if that was part of what drove him into despair. I mean, come on- I was not a fan but, even I thought the man should not have had to decide between hamming it up in a dress and paying the bills.

His wife was wifing it up in the next room the whole time, too. Probably spending that Doubtfire 2 money already. Pretty sad stuff.

Kate Spade was really sad, too.

Kobe, Robin Williams. Steve Irwin, and Anthony Bourdain all made me shed a couple tears for one reason or another.

I think the worship we have with famous people isn’t really a good thing

I never worshiped Kobe. Hell I didn’t pull for him because I pulled for Reggie Miller. This death still hits your hard as a nba fan and a part of my childhood died a little today

The obsession people have for the Kardashian’s and those types of people are unhealthy because they never accomplished anything and people worship them

Steve Irwin’s death stopped me in my tracks. Even though he handled wild animals daily, he just seemed like he always knew what the animal was thinking and was in complete control. My son (5 at the time) watched his show all the time. No tears from anyone but it just seemed like a bummer to even watch his old episodes after that. That’s the only celebrity death that I can think of that I remember exactly where I was when I found out.

Impacted? None.

Some were odd though, like Payne Stewart's plane flying all those miles on auto pilot with them dead until it ran out of fuel. Or, Steve Irwin's bizarre cause of death.

Jeffrey Epstein - I needed his testimony against the Clintons

Bruce Jenner - Thanks for killing my childhood

ESPN - Arthur Ashe Courage Award

Elvis - Very depressed 42 year old

Kobe legacy will only grow from here, like Kurt Cobain or Jimi Hendrix. Tragedy on so many levels. I didn't like Kobe until after he and Shaq parted ways. He matured into a great player and ambassador for the sport in his work ethic and the way he carried himself as a professional to the highest possible standard. I think he is in the top 3-4 players all time. 9 time all NBA defensive team, 11 time All NBA. A very well rounded player with a killer instinct. 9 time all NBA defense is the true testimony to his legacy as a player - because he was known as a scorer. A true warrior. The Mamba was a special player that earned my respect. RIP Black Mamba
