Mick Goldmill and Apollo Creed. That's about it.

Lennon

And then George Harrison

Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, & Dylan music was the soundtrack inside the house I grew up in.

I knew I was mortal when I found out JD Chapman shot the wrong Lennon.

George dying was affirmation of that and a warning to take good care of myself.

None

But I do understand the impact people like Kobe have on young people that have no real people in their lives to look up to and realize that loss that they are dealing with.

It's compassion, some çunts don't have the ability to realize that.

Not trying to be edgy but I honestly can’t think of one

I’ve never been big into celebrities though

Most of the other people in this thread died alone. Thinking of Kobe, as a father, in those last few moments of life with his daughter as they go down.....kinda fricks me up.

It's kind of weird, but I didn't know who SRV was at the time he died. When I finally did get into his music and learn about who he was, it did hit me pretty hard.

Chris Farley was a rough one too.

Ronald Reagan. Not for political reasons. He was the first President I remember as a kid. This was before I really understood partisan politics and divisiveness. He was the voice on my TV for the Challenger Disaster and when the marines were killed in Lebanon. I got really upset for his funeral.

Arnold Palmer was another one. I went to the second to last masters where he played in the par 3. He looked right at me and gave me a thumbs up.

Not my generation, but I bet losing Lou Gehrig was rough... they named the cause of his death disease after him that still persists today

For me it was robert kennedy.

I was listening to the california returns and they were live where he was and then you hear the whole thing.

My friend were crushed when jfk was shot.
It got me watching the cortege.

None had a significant impact on me, but I was a bit bummed by several including:

Frank Sinatra
Ronald Reagan
Johnny Cash
Anthony Bourdain

I think I'll be sad when Willie Nelson goes.

Kobe's is sad because of the circumstances with his daughter.

Also, not the celebrity himself, but it was awful when Eric Clapton's son died.

President Ronald Reagan. It was not a shock as he had been ill for a long time. However, it is the only time I literally wept over the death of a famous person. He was the greatest President of the 20th century and in my lifetime.

Biggest shock? Elvis...and no one else comes close. When Elvis died it shocked everyone.

Elvis was one of those rare people who was literally a legend in his own time. I can only think of three people in my lifetime who were legends in their own time.

Elvis
John Wayne
Muhammad Ali

In my teenage years probably Layne Staley. He was the Kurt Cobain for kids who weren't old enough to remember Kurt Cobain's death.

In my adult life, none spring to mind. I don't intrude on the lives of famous people anymore. I pay money to have them entertain me with music or acting or sports for a few hours and that's where the transaction ends.
