I remember Michael Jackson had a ton of people very upset, as well as Kurt Cobain. As far as athletes go, I cannot really think of one except maybe Thurman Munson. He was my brother’s idol, because my brother was a catcher as well.
I guess Wally Pontiff’s sudden death was one of the biggest around here.

Any famous person’s death ever have an impact on you?

None

I think the worship we have with famous people isn’t really a good thing.

This is not me saying that I don’t feel bad about Kobe and his family. But ultimately, I never knew him. Same thing for pretty much all famous people, I’ll never know them. So their deaths ultimately have no impact on myself.

That doesn’t mean that I didn’t pray for Kobe’s family to one day feel healing through this tragedy.

I was a little bummed when Glenn Frey died because he is a Detroit area guy who grew up near where I live now and I the Eagles.

Musicians hurt me. Stevie Ray left me in a funk for weeks. Also when Curly Hallman suicided LSU football . That was sad.

Robin Williams was rough. My dad and I loved him. I grew up watching his movies with my dad.

Kobe is bad too because he WAS basketball when I was growing up. There’s just so many signature moments and highlights he had while I was growing up.

Also, Bourdain. Loved that dude.

Robin Williams.

My high school physics teacher was his brother. Wouldn’t talk about him very much and it seemed like there were issues within his family.

His external warmness was definitely overshadowed by internal demons. So tragic and sad.

Maybe not one individual but all the wrestling personalities I grew up watching dropping like flies. Even minor ones like Test (who was only 36).

James Gandolfini and Robin Williams were actors deaths that affected me. Still miss David Bowie as far as musicians go.
