Any formerly reliable brand that's now owned by a Chinese company.

Volvo (now Zhejiang Geely)
GE Appliances (now Qingdao Haier)
Motorola Mobility (now Lenovo)

When shite gets trendy it no longer has to be of great quality. You can overcharge for mediocre shite and make a fortune.

I can’t decide on the Stanley Cup. I’m not one to jump on the white suburban mom trends, but I have friends who love them because they fit well in the car cup holder and swear ice water tastes better from them. I doubt the second part but the cup holder sizing plus having a handle is a draw for me. I saw a knock off at Wal Mart that I may try.

We had 32 Oz Yetis (that we actually bought 5 years ago, unlike everybody on this thread) and my wife noticed that all the ladies were using these Stanley’s and she said she liked the handle and straw. I was thinking “dear God, please don’t make me spend $100 on a cup” but then one time we were at Marshalls and she asked me to go see if they had a knock off one.

I was eternally grateful.

Neither look clunky to me. I like both. I get people who don't like the On soles but they don't strike me as clunky, the profile of the shoe is still really slim even for dudes with bigger feet.

This is what I think of when I think traditional Olukai shoes:

Most of the upper end golf apparel brands (Peter Miller, Rhoback, etc) yeah they’re nice but they’re not fricking $100 a shirt nice. That’s crazy and I have a couple that I was lucky to get half off

Golf and golf related stuff is so ridiculously overpriced these days. And I love golf.

Peter Milar makes really nice stuff, I’ll admit that those shirts and pants/shorts seem much higher in quality. We get them from the pro shop with the club discount around $55-60/shirt and wait for pants and shorts to have a big sale.

Yeah, it’s nice. But they’re way too overpriced. As are their competitors.

Ha, yeah I just can’t see spending $50+ on a cup. Not my style. I’ve got expensive taste but I have to be choosy as to where I apply it in life. Currently it’s for my kid’s education and nice dinners out.

I may try the wal mart brand one. My kids tend to use my crap and find a way to destroy or break it, hence the phrase “this is why we can’t have nice things”…

They do have good online sales. Maybe sign up for their emails only for big sale announcements.

Many years ago my dad usually traded in his cars for a new one every two to three years. He offered to literally give me his BMW for free and I wouldn’t take it.

My wife wanted one for years, until I actually showed her how difficult it was to replace a headlight bulb, and how the engine literally didn't have a dipstick.

She doesn't know much about vehicles, but she does trust that I know how to keep our cars running.

Starbucks. Their coffee tastes burnt

Thank you!! I am by no means a coffee snob, black out of the office coffee machine is just fine with me, but Starbucks ALWAYS tastes like I am drinking ash. My wife gets mad when I don't want to go their because their coffee tastes like it was made in my fireplace.

Jack Daniels I think it taste awful and has been so successful because they are excellent at marketing.

There are people who drink Jack Daniels straight? The only time I use it is to mix it with coke. Taste doesn’t matter at that point.

Le Creuset. I don't notice them being any lighter than an equal sized pot/skillet from other brands, and the plastic lid handle will melt in the oven if over 350 degrees.

Le Creuset was top of the line quality for decades until they started producing cheaper, lower quality stuff along with a massively increased marketing budget.

I have some that my grandmother bought in the early 60s that are in great shape and my favorites along with a couple of newer ones that are not nearly as well made. Staub doesn't help you keep up the Jones appearance wise but they're still made like the older Le Creuset.

Kind of an example of hype often causing a company to lower quality to cash in on brand name.
