This is the only thing you've said in the thread that I believe

You want your kid to be a winner or a whiner?

I want my son to not want to drop out at 2nd grade at this point. He is a very intelligent kid but I push him to make all As. However this seems a bit much.

The home work load and book weight gets insane.

But if they can’t handle load, some Asian will come along and steal their job later. So it’s do or die now so yall got to pull up the big boy drawers and attack it.

Everyday.

Relentless

No travel ball.
Sorry

Trying to keep up with the Asian countries baw.

In all seriousness you should be happy that your son is being pushed academically in a Louisiana public school.

Just be glad the teacher isn't diddling your kid...apparently teachers are known for that. At least that's what the OT tells me.

I’m going through the same thing. Nightly homework...at least an hour and up to two. Multiple tests per week.

Homework is crazy now a days.

I think it helped that all homework had to be done at the kitchen table. No in room homework distracted by text or social media or whatever.

I thought teachers had to go by standard curriculum. You should be able to find out if she’s teaching the right subject. My daughter is in 1st grade as well. My wife keeps up with the kids scholastics so I don’t really know what they are learning. I’ve seen some tests but I don’t recall much like that.

At this age I think it’s still important that they learn to enjoy learning and enjoy school. Maybe your teacher needs to lighten up a bit. He needs to save that intensity for the baseball field after school!

Look up the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching kids. The way we do things is actually hindering our national scores. Allow kids to learn to love to learn.

I swear if my son brings home more than half an hour of homework in first grade his teacher and principal are going to get a nice load of busy work from me.

In my first grade, a kid was a star if he could read “Run, Alice, run. Run, run, run.” And not shite his pants.

That's probably the reason your generation is in mountains of debt, has ran the economy into the ground, and elected a bunch of retards.

Wear it proudly though Cletus.

has a test where he has to understand to find the correct demonstrative or article. So he has to read and understand the word demonstrative.

I just looked it up
they teach y5 and y6 that stuff. So 7 is not a stretch.
If you got the instructions read to you for a week and the word demonstrative is always on the paper, you would know it.

That is abnormal and not healthy imo.. 1st grade is about beginning the routine of learning, focusing on basic +/- math and continuing to build on Reading foundation.. they should be working spelling words, phonetics and basic science/social studies but more importantly focusing on social integration.

Way back when, my 1st grade teacher let her TA supervise the average kids during busy work and did personal enrichment for me and the smartest girl in the class, gave us lots of extra assignments from old textbooks ahead of grade level. We had very little homework.

Same school the year prior, my brother had a different teacher that assigned an hour plus of handwriting each night and the most intricate art projects you ever saw.

In short, your teacher is a drillmaster and I suggest you advocate your arse off for your kid. Get her to be as passionate about your son learning as she is about holding her class accountable. If she tells you to kick rocks, thats when you get the principal involved.

What do you mean by "written tests"?

When my youngest was in first grade last year, she might have had 15-20 grades a week. But most were daily quizzes to reinforce.

And she was in the high-level class (no honors at those grade levels but they do have a high-level class of the "smarter" kids)

I haven’t paid a penny in interest in over a decade, save most of my income, and did not vote for the current retards.

But you pretty much nailed the rest of my classmates.
