This is going to sound negative, but send him somewhere cheap for a year so he can find his passions in life. Then spend the real money and send him to the best place he can get into.

Sounds like you should be steering him towards a career as a professional QB or a left handed pitcher.

Considering how remote Starkville is his best chance of surviving the Coronavirus and getting a decent degree is at The Mississippi State University.

You're going about this all wrong. You WANT to be the one straight guy at A&M. It's what we call a "target rich environment".

ChemE at UF is too much for a 4.1 kid with a 27 ACT that doesn't have any interest in engineering.

US News rankings may be accidentally right at some points but are mostly for shat

Can you link me to the list you use that ranks them properly?

I would not rank them. It is a fool's errand. I would decide what I wanted to study and then see how schools did in things like starting salary, internship and job placement and research parterships. US News is on a long delay due to it's reliance on popularity in its survey. Some schools get on the list every year from reputations they no longer deserve.

idk what career in sports he could do

history or law, idk.
he says plastics interest him, so chem E was first option. i told him mechanical is what iron man did.

but alot of people in his school dont want to go to LSU( not a sexy place if youre from BR) and that due harassing the asian girls in tiger stadium

Sports Medicine, Mechanical Engineering or Radiology

Does it really matter? Anyone who has worked around engineers know 99% of the shite they learned in school doesn't matter.

This is also a very good point.

A good engineer isn't good because of where he went to school. Its based more on his/her experience.

There are SOME things that you learn in school that are helpful, but when a project comes up and the PM is deciding who he wants to do what.. He isn't saying "well such and such is able to do exactly what we need done, but his degree is from Arkansas and the other guy we just hired has a degree from Florida so I guess we should go with him".

what act is good enough for Washu U, vandy, rice, etc ? michigan? he sid there for some reason

33 at least and that would be with straight A's and a decent looking resume of activities. For a white male, it would have to be higher to get any of them.

For the most part anyone who can read and has a basic knowledge of how to read prints could do the job most engineers do.

a&m is the only high end engineering school in the sec.
uf keeps edging it's way up.
doesn't matter too much after that.

Someone with a 4.1/27 would flourish at a school like Mississippi State, who puts out good chemical engineers. Louisiana Tech would be a good option as well.

Georgia Tech would laugh at his application and he would be at the bottom of Florida/Auburn/A&M.

Total Bull. Just up the road from me, the Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering at LSU is one of the top in the United States and I would not wipe my arse with some of the degrees at UF.
