why in the big blue ocean of frick anyone responds seriously to you is well beyond me. On top of that we have our other village idiot chiming in with engineering school quality analysis, and two other internet opinionaters arguing about said out-of-the-arse analysis

27 is lower middle-of-the pack for Purdue acceptance, FWIW. I'll generally toss in Purdue as a very good STEM option in these discussions.
I will second that, one of my kids is a Purdue ME grad, he made a visit to most of the SEC engineering schools, and then visited Purdue, he then scratched all the SEC schools of his list of potential schools.

I'll weigh in for Texas A&M if for no other reason than there are a ton of jobs in Houston and the companies in Texas prefer to hire A&M grads. It's a good engineering school and it definitely helps with getting a job. If he hates Houston and/or Texas then he should look elsewhere.
Seriously - whether he succeeds or fails at engineering is going to have very little to do with the school he picks.

There are accredited publications that come out with these exact lists each year. I would consult them before the OT.
They are not “accredited” and I would not consult them. They emphasize things that most people don’t give a hoot about.

Depends on the field but:
Tier 1:
Florida
Texas A&M
LSU
Tier 2:
Auburn
Tennessee
Arkansas
Missouri
Miss St.
Everyone else that has an Engineering program isn't generally worth the conversation...

school ranking questions are almost always entirely missing the point. an engineering degree opens all kinds of doors, wherever it is from. furthermore, if a kid graduates from LSU with a 3.5 in engineering (chemical, electrical, mechanical, whatever) that is incredibly good and the kid has the brains it takes to do just about anything. unless they are applying for the PhD program at CalTech and that ilk, nobody is going to get caught up in rankings.

This. LSU engineering graduates have no problem at all finding good paying jobs.
