My son now at 18 .. It's legal at either 17 or 18 in presence of parents. Others? No way I'm giving it to them until 18...I am taking no chances.

For buying yes but louisiana law allows 17 or 18 year old (can't remember) to drink if with a parent. Mine has never accepted my offer.

Not before they go to college. When a 19 or 20 year old comes home from school and has a few beers, no big deal.
Whatever the age, I'd expect to maintain a certain decorum in the house (ie no puking and getting all fricked up)

I would not put myself in the position to responsible for drunk idiot high schoolers/teenagers.
As far as my kid? I'll probably let him/her have a bit of craft beer or wine when I do, but never a full bottle or glass starting around 16.

21 and I'd would show him lots of examples of the kids with "cool parents" ruining their lives with unplanned pregnancies, drugs and alcohol. No matter how lax your rules are kids are going to push the limits that's their role as teenagers. My son(20) drinks in his apartment but not at my house and hopefully he never drives when he's been drinking.

How the hell do frats handle the liability? Do they scan DL's when you join & have a list of who can and can't be served beer? Can a pledge get in good with the brothers by serving them beers before they turn 21?
I still think 18 should be the drinking age and always will.

My friends and I and most every other kid I knew were drinking by 15. We'd leave to go out about 9pm and when my parents would ask what we were up to, we didn't need to lie. We'd say Bruno's, T.J.'s, The Duck, The Boot, AT II's, Tuck's etc. They were cool with it and they let it be known that we could call them anytime of the day or night and they'd come get us if we needed it.
Now my parents let me and my siblings drink at home, but it was like a Scotch after dinner with my Dad. Friends were not allowed to drink at my house while my parents were around. Other parents did allow drinking though. Gotta say drinking was never a big deal to most of us. We grew up around it. Yes, we drank, but none of us got that out of control. I 100% attribute that to being allowed to drink at a young age. None of my friend's parents were trashy BTW... Very far from it.

I don't drink and I don't expect my children will either. It's not a mandatory part of life which may come as a shock to some of you heathens.

By the time I was 14 my dad would bring me a 6 pack on the tractor around 4 pm every day while cutting rice. Underage drinking and operating heavy machinery taught me responsibility?? Maybe. True story though
