Those days are gone.....you are opening yourself up to lawsuits because people cannot accept responsibility for their own kids actions. There was a period when people would collect car keys from all the kids present and parents still sued them.

All of my sons high school parties are hosted at my house. Don't get me wrong I have an issue with the drinking, but. I can't figure out a better way to bang high school girls

Senior year of high school. Don't see the big deal of a couple beers at 18 when no one is driving.

I don't see how the law makes it more ethically and morally right than a parent making a judgment call based off years and years of observation of the subject.
I would say 18 or later. Basically when they graduate HS, I would allow him and friends to drink that night and not ride anywhere.

on a practical note, you DO not want to be responsible/liable for providing alcohol or allowing alcohol to be consumed by anyone who is underage and is not your child in your home. the consequences could be huge. it is even a big risk to provide it/allow it to be served at your home to a bunch of irresponsible 21 year olds :).
other than that, you are the parent and have to decide how to raise your own child. i have a college freshman and a second year law school student, have been in your position and would not recommend encouraging underage, hanging out drinking with your child. but, i would also not assume to tell anyone what is "the correct way" to do anything as regards to bringing up children. best of luck! parenting is a long and never ending adventure :)!

My parents let me and friends drink at the house sophomore year of high school. Only for football games and stuff like that tho

Don't have kids. But my parents allowed it when I went to college. However, they weren't blind to the fact that I drank quite a bit in high school.

Just because something is the law does't make it right. Lithette #3 has a 3.95 Junior in Chemical Engineering. Did a semester in Europe and drinking age is 18. I think it's based on the kid. I started when I was 17 (drinking age was 18) and I've done OK

Since all other countries are 18, our first time being "oK' was in the DR.. Since then, he's not wanted to drink back in the states because he's Mr. " Follow the rules" guy... it was rather odd drinking with our son. But, I grew up in the 18 was the legal age in LA and grandfathered in post Federal crackdown, so I'm good with my son drinking at 18- within reason. Our kids these days are sooo much more less exposed to our freedom.

21. Having said that I remember drinking beer at a hifi store grand opening back in the late 70's. Heck my dad and mom both knew I drank beer and did it around them but I never would've been allowed more than one.
It's a totally different litigation riddled world today. As another here called it; pussification of the country.
