If. IF I allowed my kid's friends to drink at my house, they wouldn't be allowed to leave until they sobered up the next morning. You're putting drunk teens in Ubers and gambling your freedom by trusting them to go straight home and stay there and you're calling me crazy?

And those teens aren't going to plaster that shite all over social media. Then some parent gets pissed at you and then the cops show.

If you can’t handle yourself after a couple drinks, you won’t be hanging out at our house again

Id let my kid have a sip of my beer around 6 or so or whenever he asks for it

Is that a.m. or p.m.? If a.m., then I might judge you for letting them start too early. If p.m., then I might question why you are making them wait an extra hour after everyone else starts drinking.

I think I out-trash all of the responses so far. We keep a close eye on our drinks and have to make sure they are well out of reach of the 3yr old. It doesn't matter what's in the glass, bottle or can. If she gets a hold of it it's bottoms up. She loves beer & wine. She once downed about 3oz of wine in a single gulp. My wife is more negligible than me. I usually catch her in the act and the most she consumes is a big sip. It's gotten so bad that sometimes I keep my opened beer on the to shelf in the fridge or in another room.

The 10 yr old daughter has 0 interest and we've only started giving our 16yr old son short pours of wine & beer in the last year or so. He seems to prefer wine

I clearly remember my grandparents giving us peppermint schnapps as young as 4-6 yrs to knock us out when we would stay over. That's child abuse now

Being one of eight kids, and have four of my own, I am a firm believer in letting them drink when their juniors in high school at family functions. Fourth of July, Christmas, Thanksgiving, family get together’s etc. . Just a couple and use those moments as teaching moments because you know somebody in the family is going to have too much to drink and get loud and make an arse out of himself. Maybe even be me. None of my siblings turned into degenerate alcoholics and none of my kids so there you have it.

Are you really going with a "teens in other gulf states don't drink underage with their parents" stance?

You have raised a young man of culture.

A good red beats a shitty domestic beer every single time, especially if you are eating anything other than a burger or pizza.

14-15 ish, grew up in Europe and society there has a vastly different outlook regarding alcohol as well as an "infrastructure"/transportation system as well as VERY strict licensing requirements.

I will not disagree with you however, you set that argument up by using "shitty domestic beer" as your reference point.

Beer, in general & especially good beer, far out performs wine on an acceptability scale when paired with food. Beer pairs better than wine with food & not just pizza, burgers & wings.

I am mostly a beer drinker but I am going to strongly disagree with you there.

I drink wine with food and beer otherwise, unless I am at a bar and get a cocktail.

We have a bottle of wine with dinner about 25% of the time... sometime more often, sometimes less.

Around 15-16, they were offered. Sometimes they partake, sometimes they don’t. We don’t make it an issue. It’s just a part of how we roll.

Bingo.

I have no idea what the upside would be in letting my kids’ friends drink at my house, but there is a crapload or downside. Under no circumstances am I doing that.
