Mongols used to take dead corpses, put them in catapults, and launch them as missiles. And they usually picked the diseased dead so they could spread the disease to their enemies.

Yeah they were pretty big assholes.

Big assholes for sure but what they did was impressive. Their army wasn’t very large. I think only 100K strong at their height

What’s amazing is that Mongolia was such a power but is irrelevant today.

it's not really amazing

they were irrelevant up until a great steppe leader took over and once he died, became irrelevant again

the Mongols under the Khans only became great when they conquered lands with the infrastructure to sustain the empire over time

Because once Stalin made them a vassal he deposed the last remaining member of the Khans in power. Communists ruin everything folks including the Mongolians

Anyone want to let me borrow an account? Or is there a subscription service? I just can’t justify 160 bucks for it at the moment
There is a subscription service. $20.00 per month through their website with a 30 day trial or you can get it as an amazon channel. Free for 7 days, and then $7.99 a month.

I bought the year subscription. Well worth if for quality content. I just wish my TV had an app for it so I could watch it falling asleep. I wonder if they have any programs on the 30 years war, or early modern pike and shot warfare

Well, only those that resisted were laid to waste. So it was more “bend the knee and abide by the Pax Mongolia...or...die.”

Right up there with the Rape of Nanking and the crusaders conquest of Jerusalem. There is the holocaust and the Armenian genocide. Plenty of other war atrocities.

The Mongolians were no better or worse than many others.

I mean sure if we just gloss over the fact that the Moslems attacked Christian Europe about 10x as much as the Christians attacked the Middle East.

Shut up. We're building a narrative here!

Best thing to come out of Mongolia in a thousand years is the band “The Hu”.

You have to give the Mongols their due. They kept expanding after Genghis and were a force for hundreds of years. Just a gigantic land area. It wasn’t until the Russians obtained firearms that they were really able to throw off the yoke of the Golden Horde.

A lot of history was made by the Steppe people. In 3000 BC, a huge invasion from the Steppes of Western Russia transformed Europe. These people virtually wiped out the native inhabitants of northern Europe and replaced them. In 2500 BC, this same group invaded Britain and replaced 90% of the population there.

It would be great if we had more information about how it all happened, but all we have is archaeology and DNA evidence. No one knows whether it was through disease, conquest or both. But the DNA evidence is clear that the Steppe people's DNA came to dominate northern Europe (not as much in the South).

I agree. I've watched a lot of great content on it. If you enjoy Maya stuff. Maya to Aztec Mesoamerica revealed by Edwin Barnhart.
It was a pretty good series as well. I liked the Professor first thing he did was say he's going with BC, and AD instead of the BCE stuff. lol

Looks like on the website they have an app for ROKU, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV

I think one of my first threads was on why BCE was dumb.

What starts the “common era”

Oh? It’s the same thing that denotes BC?

I’ll save the extra letter
