The Siege of Baghdad has to be one of the greatest atrocities in human history so the Mongolians are a very reasonable pick.

The Barbary Pirates are overlooked assholes.

They were such assholes tormenting international shipping in the 19th century that even the then fledgling United States sent over some Marines to teach them a lesson and neutralize their capabilities.

Fun fact: the Mongols practiced religious tolerance. There were Muslim, Animist, and even Christian Mongols.

Yep, and I don't think it's even close. No one else ever carried out an order to kill every living thing in their path, including everything from tigers to cattle to bugs.

Carlin argues the Persians were the most tolerant people/empire that ruled that region when they ruled. Everyone before them was more brutal.
