I know exactly the thread you are talking about and it is seared into my psyche as well. The really wild thing about it is those pictures were taken by a Chinese guy who was so shocked and disgusted by India he wanted to show the world how bad it is. China is not exactly the most hygienic place on the planet so that stuck with me that even this Chinese guy was so disgusted by India.

It was only a few years ago, but I think the thread is lost to the interwebs at this point. And I can't find the link with the pictures either (although last time I looked maybe a year or so ago the link was no longer working anyway).

There is some sort of underlying cultural thing with India I can't figure out
-over populated
-generally very poor
-known for scamming / doing whatever it takes to make a dollar
Does this just lead to zero trust and respect for anyone else or the place you live?
Feels like the single most important factor is that GDP per capital is like $2,000 yet it is an absolutely gigantic economy in total. Fertility has fallen off, more in line with western nations, perhaps it sorts itself out over the next 50 years -- probably not, who's going to pick up the trash?!
