Is this a serious response?

If for family or close friends, I will go to the wedding. When I was in my 20s, I’d absolutely would not have had that position.

We’re getting married in Puerto Rico on October 18th, a FRIDAY. Then we’re all going out for the LSU game the next night. The night of the 19th was out of the question, and she understood.

LOL If you attend one you probably wear jeans and a T shirt.

This is just you projecting. I legitimately like attending loved ones’ weddings.

Anyone who cares more about college football than celebrating major life events with their family and friends is an enormous dork.

I'm just thankful I'm old enough now that I don't have friends getting married and inviting me. In my mid 20s to early 30s, there were so many weddings. I never minded them during football season that much. I skipped a few that my wife went to if it was a big game that day. Or we went and everyone watched games during the reception.

The only one I actually remember, poor girl wasn't from Alabama but her groom was, and they were getting married in his hometown. She wanted to get married the Saturday after Thanksgiving, around 3:00. She just didn't understand why he and his family didn't want to do it on that date. Iron Bowl weekend, right as it usually kicks off. Of course the church was available, no one in the middle of a small town in Alabama is scheduling a wedding the afternoon of the Iron Bowl. They ended up doing it closer to Christmas.

I have made it many times. The last time was the Bama LSU game in 2018. Skipped my wife's younger sisters wedding for it. They knew months in advance me and some Marine buddies were meeting in Baton Rouge for that game but everyone is still pissed about that one to this day.

Ill agree with you man. Wife and I got married on a Friday in October with 8 ppl. Didn't even book a venue, just walked to Rowan Oak with a preacher. We Have ZERO regrets.

Also, ive been in 6 weddings and she has been in 4 so we have seen them all. All those ppl said they wish what we did.

This topic has devolved into the people making the decisions to attend or not instead of the people who schedule them. The point above is spot on to me. I would go to my buddy's wedding, but I would never let him forget about scheduling it during football season.

The last time this happened you could canvas the congregation and see about 1/3 of the men had a headphone popped in connected to their phone/pocket radio. The QB threw an INT during the vows and you could hear everyone trying to stifle a groan. Thankfully the bride had a sense of humor.

What used to happen with these fall weddings is that the groomsmen - sometimes including the groom - are huddled around a tv at the reception.

The bride is pissed because it's her special day and all attention should be on her.

The mother of the bride comes over to the groomsmen, and in a huff asks "Is this football game more important than my daughter's wedding?"

Nowadays I suppose they all just watch the game on their phones.

Almost all (and in almost all its everyone I remember ) getting married on a Saturday during football season meant there was a television somewhere with a bunch of guys watching the game.

I got married in April, after proposing the prior Oct.
Mrs thought that we couldn't pull it off in basically 5 months but
1) Summer in FL just to hot so wasn't doing that
2) wasnt waiting yr and half
3) wasn't having a fall wedding ... Because I know my half of the crowd would be constantly checking games
So we got everything in order in 4 months

I won't steal from Warren St Johns work in Ramma Jamma but the story about the daughter getting married on the 3rd sat in Oct is great. Especially the reactions from his colleagues in NYC vs fellow RVers in ...Gainesville ( worth a read)

In both cases where I missed weddings I was attending games that weekend. In one case details were booked before the wedding date was announced.

It was always a joke in our house (son and daughter) to not get married during football season. It was a joke mentioned every football season.
Son got married in April and daughter (no pics) is getting married this coming March.
The joke worked

Without thinking this part out fully, I proposed in October of 2021. Between Alabama heat and football season, we pulled off a wedding in 6 months to avoid both of those things. Worth it but man it was nuts.

Sad to see people haven’t realized how insignificant college football is

And weddings aren’t insignificant? They are pointless ceremonies celebrating the signing of some legal documents.
