I'm with the video company on this one as it pertains to the money.
But as a business, doing right by the customer, it kinda seems like a no brainer to toss the contract out the window in this specific situation. They don't have to, but sometimes a business needs to just think logically for a second, and they did not do that here...of course then they took it up another 50 or so notches the wrong way.

I mean, you're not wrong, but it's still bad PR. The "pick your battles" phrase exists for a reason. Is this the battle you want to pick?
And one guy's trying to get out of a contract. The other's taunting someone about his dead fiance. There are just two different levels to this.

Here's the deal: The wedding industry is probably one of the industries where customer service, good will, and word of mouth matter the most.
What SHOULD have happened here is the videographer should have gone out of his way to work with him and let him know that they can do a partial refund, and do more of a refund if they are able to rebook the date. A contract is a contract, but a little bit of goodwill goes a long way.
If that wasn't good enough for the groom, they could have explained their side of it in a logical way and hope that most people understand.
Have some compassion in a situation like this.
But the owner is a complete psychopath conman that has grifted in multiple states.
He's a world class piece of trash.

The company's poor judgement has been well covered. My problem is everyone giving the crazy guy a pass on extortion. That is NEVER justifiable. He was trying to take away someone else's business and livelihood because of something that happened to him and that other party had nothing to do with.
I hope he is held accountable, too.
