Don't necessarily agree with this. When I was being a dumbass in my public HS, my principal and coaches had several "mentorship" sessions with me that had nothing to do with education, but rather about how to navigate life. And I appreciate the hell out of them for it.

His taking punitive actions against her, beyond just advice and mentorship, is where he went wrong.

He blew it when 1) he didn't call a parent in; 2) should have focused on the damage from social media; 3) went holy roller on the girl

Exactly why I stated, in my opinion, his fault is in the punitive action.

It sounds like both the “crime” and the “punishment” were based on subjective BS. The so-called student government position was appointed based on the principal’s subjective criteria and probably favoritism. And the whole “I was going to recommend you for a scholarship but now i’m not.” was the principal being a massive douche. It was all based on this one guy’s opinion of students’ morals. The “privileges” he gave were not earned, and he took them away for BS reasons.

This makes you wonder if the principal’s personal faith played a factor into appointing the SGA president?

That can open a whole keg of worms into any decision whatsoever regarding anything he’s made involving individual students.

The principle is an idiot and should be fired.

He needs to keep his religion to himself.

Sounds like certain students benefitted from being “favorites” based on this one guy’s beliefs and preferences. The girl then pissed off the all-powerful dictator and loses the privileges. I think the favoritism was wrong in the first place, and the overly dramatic punitive way he withdrew it was borderline sociopathic.

He spent 2 hours with one student talking about the Bible and telling her she wasn't going to heaven. He can do that at church on Sunday if she is willing to sign up for that. 1. Taxpayers should not be paying him for this. 2. How can he afford to spend 2 hours of his day on this? Is this top priority at Walker High?

I guess he’s not religious enough to realize he doesn’t get to make that decision

He didn't attempt to teach or mentor. He succeeded in humiliation and being the opposite of a leader in the community.

Per reports, she cried for 2 hours and kept asking to leave or call her mom. This was more of a hostage situation than a mentoring session.

He looks like a slimy charlatan. Someone you'd see in a late night infomercial get rich quick scheme. Definitely would not want my daughters alone with him.

School is no place for the principal's principles.

Sounds like a borderline case for false imprisonment.

As school administration, he can detain her for legit reasons. These do not appear to have been legit, though, so it can be argued she was held against her will illegally.

Even the code of conduct thing, if there was one, would not stand if it restricted any constitutionally protected actions. Twerking, as vile as it is, and smacking that other girls arse outside of school is beyond his scope of authority in dictating school related sanctions.

It is icing on the cake that he wouldn’t let her contact her parent, lectured her on religion, and what not.
