LSU head coach Lane Kiffin was asked Sunday about Kentucky's controversial tush push touchdown in Saturday night's overtime loss and the explanation officials gave him after the play.

Kentucky appeared to be stopped short of the goal line before a late push carried the ball carrier into the end zone. However, officials never blew the whistle to stop the play for forward progress.

According to Kiffin, the line judge told him there was simply too much at stake to blow the play dead.

"The line judge just said, 'Hey, in that situation, there's just too much at stake,'" Kiffin said. "He said he'd be killed if he would have blown the whistle for the play being stopped, even though it appeared to be stopped."

Kiffin took issue with that explanation, arguing that the situation shouldn't dictate how the rules are enforced.

"If you would have blown that whistle on first down, or if there were 10 minutes left in the game for forward progress being stopped ... don't not blow it because it's such a big play," Kiffin said.

"The rules are the rules. So if you see it that way, then see it that way. That's my complaint with it."

Kiffin also expressed frustration with another late officiating decision involving a false start and a timeout awarded to Kentucky during a two-point conversion attempt.

"Really big decision, really big call there," Kiffin said.

Kiffin added that he struggled with communication with the officiating crew throughout the game.

"But hey, it is what it is," Kiffin said.

Need to tighten up Lane. Don’t leave it up to the officiating crew. FIND a freaking OLine

There was a punt return with many blocks in the back for a TD. There was a false start on a two point conversion. There was a bad spot preventing LSU from going for a first down in regulation to win the game. That’s 16 points for Kentucky that the refs had a hand in. That’s too many things to have to tighten up for. The TD on a stopped momentum play was a key in this game.

Sankey or his assigns definitely gave the officiating crew points of emphasis.
