If she has a smart lawyer, she could probably get a full ride to Tulane courtesy of the state representative from the Walker area.

Even the code of conduct thing, if there was one, would not stand if it restricted any constitutionally protected actions. Twerking, as vile as it is, and smacking that other girls arse outside of school is beyond his scope of authority in dictating school related sanctions.

Dance has been a protected form of free speech for decades, even nude dancing to the extreme. Held up in the USSC several times.

Being detained for two hours against her will is an arrest by definition.

The girl is owed a state actor that doesn’t discriminate against her based on his religious beliefs.

One could also argue that the rest of the students, the “non-favorites” are owed that as well. If the principal has been granting favors to “a certain kind of student” based on religion and morals, the favors this girl had so cruelly taken away were never offered to others in the first place because they didn’t fit his image.

Just curious, is it a personal recommendation that's being revoked? If so, public school officials should not be recommending students for scholarships. The personal beliefs of the official would always be called into question.

If that's true that is insane. What makes someone in his position think its his right to teach the bible? As if his views are the "right way".

If she was really a troubled kid, she would have walked out in the middle of his bullshite. I hope he at least did this during school time and not some other time..

You grossly underestimate the ability of the LP schoolboard to weather scandal and complaints. Perhaps now that it's national news that could happen, but if it hadn't made it that out of local news, no question in my mind nothing comes of this.

I watched the raw interview footage on Kiran and read the article, and my impression was it was all “personal recommendation.” The student government position was hand-picked by the principal or administration. The “scholarship” in question was the principal telling the student “I WAS going to recommend you for this scholarship, but since this video now I’m not.” She never had a scholarship, but the principal was using this possible scholarship in the future as a way to make her feel shitty, in addition to revoking the government position that HE put her in.

Also, as a parent of a student in an LP high school, there is a lot of favoritism for a certain kind of student. Athletic, religious, studious, all of which are positive traits, but other students (for instance, openly gay ones) are not afforded these favors.

That is wild. All this fuss over dancing at a homecoming party. A chaperoned party at that. Since when do public schools care how someone dances at a party?

How has this dude not been beat the frick up by now? A group of dads should have showed up to his house and slapped the taste out of his mouth.

Guess i am lucky they didn't have phone cameras back in my days at Mckinley and BRHS because I was most likely dancing to Rumpshaker and drinking Boone's farm at parties.

I think the underlying issue is the principal has a crush on the student and it made him jealous that she was out with friends having a good time. Maybe that should be investigated

In all fairness, openly gay high schoolers are 1000x more obnoxious than other typical high schoolers.
