I live in Bentonville Arkansas. It blows my mind to hear WalMart stories from out of town.

I could literally take a shite on a scanner and no less than twelve people would tell me how awesome I am as they're loading the groceries into my car.

Come to a Walmart here. Every employee is like a Stepford wife and you could eat off the floors.

It's really weird.

I have a different neighborhood Wal-Mart experience.

We have a family friend who works the self-checkout and Wally and she's constantly busting thieves. making them re-scan. How can they possibly make money vs. hiring one or two more checkout people?

By contrast, I was in a real grocery store yesterday and (probably started with COVID) they had an airport check-in style, snake line where everyone had to be checked out by a cashier.

The only way they're walking out with shite is stuffed in their britches.

They need to do facial recognition for alcohol purchases, I go to the same Walmart and buy the same liquor but always have to wave the girl over.

Wal Mart is fine with about 2% of their inventory walking out of the door. There’s very few items that set off the alarms (cosmetics and electronics).

I’d imagine as they push further to self checkout their anti-theft measures will increase as well.

Wal Mart employs plain clothes watching for any shifty shite. At least they did before COVID. I knew a guy who did it. Seemed like a shite gig. 8 hours in a Wally World observing the awesome clientele they attract. The stories he has. He told me the hottest ticket item he always saw people going after was Pokémon cards.

I was walking out of HEB the other day and the guy next to me was pushing a buggy with a bunch of 12 packs of coke. The alarm system started beeping and the wheels on his cart locked up immediately.. I had never seen that before. The HEB clerk came out and unlocked them but I thought that was a cool anti-theft measure that I didn’t know existed.

Whaaaat this is kind of old school by today’s standards. I saw this back in middle school at least. So like 10-15 years it’s been around.

That is kinda neat. I wonder if they lock up too if they get to far away from store to keep people from stealing them.

Scanned a yogurt and heard a beep, the machine locked up and showed a replay of me missing the scanner. Oops. I called the assistant over and they fixed it. Glad they prevented me from taking .50 from them.

I heard that happened to some people at Rouses recently, and it didn’t turn out well for them.

Does this mean I can’t ring up a flatscreen as a bag of walnuts anymore?

Why?…..if your halfway competent it is way faster and more efficient than going to the real heathens they have running the regular registers. If they are even there.

Visiting my wife's (no pics) best friend in Mena Ark we ventured into the Wal Mart there to get things to grill. The store was immaculate, you could eat peanut butter off the floor. All the shelves were stocked and the AC was blowing at 65F in August. Compared to the Wal Marks in Baton Rouge this was an enjoyable shopping experience. I typically avoid these stores but only go once every 3 months to buy laundry soap. I hate the self checkout.

Because those heathens get paid training. Not my fault I didn't recognize the functionality of the machine. Especially when there were 4 associates bullshitting in the corral

That would take away the benefit of using self checkout. The benefit is there are no long lines. With a 10% discount, I would be stuck behind all the lazy, obese, slow walkers.

Yes they do. They'll have signs out in the parking lot over the invisible "line" the carts can't pass without locking up. The first time I saw it I thought it was genius

I'd pay them 10% just to avoid some of the cashiers at Walmart.

Area Albertson's recently replaced 4 regular cashiers with 8 self checkouts. When I one of the clerks why, she said that they were told that the store had tried them a few yrs ago & the thefts became too expensive, so mgt took them out. Now " mgt. is preparing for $15 minimum wage" and are simply stationing more staff around the self check outs. Made little sense to me but am guessing some bean counter somewhere says the numbers are there.
