Scanned a yogurt and heard a beep, the machine locked up and showed a replay of me missing the scanner. Oops. I called the assistant over and they fixed it. Glad they prevented me from taking .50 from them.

Never had that happen, nor knew it existed.

It's a pain in the arse unless you have a cashier there who is paying attention and not bullshitting around or texting on their phone.

I really hope Home Depot doesn't implement this. Since they hired me as a checkout technician I have done a lot of questionable shite.

If you use self checkout, you should get a 10% discount on your entire purchase.

I was walking out of HEB the other day and the guy next to me was pushing a buggy with a bunch of 12 packs of coke. The alarm system started beeping and the wheels on his cart locked up immediately.. I had never seen that before. The HEB clerk came out and unlocked them but I thought that was a cool anti-theft measure that I didn’t know existed.

At least it didn't show a replay of your jerking off and demanding bitcoin to allow you to complete your purchase.

I appreciate these, even if people are slow. I remember going to to grocery store as a kid with my mom, the cashier had to manually type in the dollar.cent amount on every single item. Was not a quick process.

Someone got a perfectly good CAT 6500 generator from Lowe’s after Barry in 2019 for one hell of a deal. I bought it and returned it after the storm. Told them it didn’t sound right when running and they didn’t ask any questions. A few days later I saw it on their floor with a note that read “customer says runs loud” on it and it was discounted $250. I thought about buying it back at the lower price but couldn’t in good faith do it.

Is this a fancy job title for the person who stands in front of self checkout and asks if you're using cash or credik?

They would just do the shoppers value hack of lowering all the prices of the food and adding 10% on the top…. Except in reverse.

I had 5 bellpeppers in a bag in my cart the other day and pressed 4 when they asked how many I had. I felt so naughty.

I watched an old gal fake scan a full buggy of shite and walk out with like $10 on her EBT. I am not loss prevention and they shouldn't have 2 people watching the entire front end. Maybe they don't have the same tech at all the stores.

Yeah if the HEB buggy doesn't pass through a checkout lane before exiting the store, the wheels lock. This is how I've figured it anyway, I could be wrong.

Really?? My kids like to scan so I let them.

Heck, I even add shite we don’t need so they can scan

Walmart has a general policy with suspected self-checkout theft wherein if they believe it's going on (if they notice something in real time) they nicely give some reason to start you over at a different machine, and if they notice the same activity, they take you down to Chinatown.

To think, they really didn't used to have security scanners/beepers at the exits and for the most part didn't have the people at the exits checking receipts. All one had to do was sneak in a bag or two from that same store, fill it up, and walk right out under the pretense that you simply just got finished checking out. So I've been told by bad people.
