Have you ever been to Ville Platte? How is something racist if its true? The black people who live there would prefer to vote for a black person who is unqualified and has no good intentions for the city rather than vote for a qualified white person with good intentions. Its been proven by the local elections.

I don't know the background of this mayor or how she came to office, but some of the comments on this story have been predictably and sadly racist. You want to make fun of her, fine. There are good people living there who just want to not be robbed and shot and it sounds like crime is out of control. I feel bad for them. Can everyone please keep that in mind when commenting and not just dunk on black people with memes.
There are lots of good people living there, some of my family included. But the local government is a shite show and there have been very good, qualified people who just didn't win the election. I'll leave it at that.

You're from the area? I had the impression you were an Acadia Parish baw.

That’s in St. Landry
Cameron (Valve mfg facility), Cabot (Carbon Black plant), & Union Tank Car (repair facility) are the main economic drivers in that area.

Ah. They do have an active website. I thought they still has a physical address.
Ville Platte should take a lesson from Mamou. Get all of the cops out writing tickets for 1 mile over the speed limit. That will fatten the coffers real quick.

The qualified white person would win if most of the whites hadn't moved out of the city limits.
The problem is not black people voting for black people.

Dumbass mayor ran on race politics and she got in. Problem is that the city is completely broke and has relied on federal money for years but generates very very very little tax dollars to fund itself.

. I just typed and deleted a lengthy comment as to why it will continue to get worse, however after proof reading it to myself, I decided to delete it because the explanation for the problem would no doubt get me banned.
Now see, shite like this needs to be rectified.
This forum is popular because it mostly allows its users to express themselves freely. If they're going to start clamping down and banning everybody for everything it's going to lose the one thing that separates it from the rest of the internet. Freedom of speech.

Starting police pay in VP is 11 bucks an hour
This is sad and terrifying.
At that pay level, you're probably better off just not having any police. The lawsuits won't be worth it. Can't be getting better than a borderline 70 at that pay

I like the header of the website.
"Ville Platte On The Move"
Just like their residents.

I agree you cannot have one officer per shift for a town that size.
Eventually the businesses like Wal-Mart and local mom & pop stores will love right outside the city limits. This way they get all the business, parish is responsible for the services, and their taxes are traditionally lower.

WTF is “slabbing”?
VP has a mandatory reflective vest ordinance?
I guess she is always thinking since it’s her primary game plan to move the city forward.
