Rumor is that Cameron may decide to close up shop too and the town would be absolutely fooked if that happened.

Damn. They used to be my biggest customer years back.

Any clue which divisions are still out there?

Lafayette, Broussard, and Youngsville are where most college graduates who want to stay in the area have moved. Cities like Ville Platte, Jeanerette, Opelousas, Franklin, New Iberia (to some extent), etc. are feeling the effects of this. You’re basically left with a handful of educated people who rule over the rubble and will never leave and a giant welfare underclass.

Very accurate but the educated/productive citizens move out of the city limits and forfeit their right to vote and leave the city to be run by people that would be at best lower level employees in the private sector to run their town.

Police Jury instead of a Parish President

There are too many small towns in EP and no dominant voting block for a parish president. Mamou and Basil would never allow a Ville Platian to run their shite.

She should have to pay for the sheriff or State Police.

Sad part people like her scream for the state to step in. Then they get mad when you patrol with an iron fist.

If Ville Platte cannot afford services maybe they need to disband the town and then it could be unicorporated. Then it is the parishes problem.

The ones that did stay now live on Chicot Rd. There is no tax base inside the city limits of ville platte. It’s only gonna get worse

I spent a month living in Ville Platte around 1997 or so. Did a rotation with Dr. Ardoin and stayed at s Bed and Breakfast. I really enjoyed that small town and everyone was so nice to me.

Unfortunately, a month after I got home, Dr. Ardoin tragically died in a helicopter crash. I had went up in that helicopter with him. No more of that for me.

Sad to hear that Ville Platte is such a mess now.

But these problems will soon engulf all Louisiana towns. Ville Platte is just one of the first dominoes to fall where it’s actually THIS bad. This is going to be all over every small town in the state soon.

I live in one of these small towns, and we moved to the country for peace and quiet, but we all need to understand what's at stake here.

What we are doing is abandoning these towns and the legacy of the people that came before us.
And what are we going to do when the towns are completely unlivable? There aren't any other damn towns to go to, unless you leave the area. And if everyone does that? I know that most of us who stayed here don't want Louisiana to completely fall apart.

The towns are save-able, but it will take the people with money wanting to save them. You can't take all of the resources out of a community and expect it to thrive.

Wealthy people are going to have to lead the way.

My mother is from Ville Platte and a lot of her family still lives there. My parents live about 15 miles away in St. Landry. Since my maternal grandmother died, we don't go to Ville Platte as often as we used to, however whenever we do, my mother always says how sad my grandmother would be if she could see what the town has become.

And because those towns are the only relatively decent ones to live in the area, they’re trying to price Lafayette real estate like it’s Southern California.
