I'm sure they get the best and brightest. Most likely guys on their way to Quantico just looking to add some street experience to their resume.

Let's take a look back at her comments from 2019 shall we...

quote:

The City of Ville Platte has made budget cuts to the police department; eleven positions were cut, but Mayor Jeniffer Vidrine says it’s all to better the city.

quote:

Mayor Vidrine says this most recent cut is a win-win for the city, as the extra money that was once with the police department, will now go to other city departments that need it more.

What happened to that win-win, mayor?

It's hard to blame any qualified candidates they might have for not wanting a job where you have to deal with the absolute worst in society and still live near the poverty line.

I cant speak for the current police force, but back in the day, It seemed like it was basically guys who couldn't hold any other job just said "frick it, I'll go be a VP cop". Local gentlemen with not much going on between their ears.

The cuts equaled out to 1 cop per shift. Pretty terrible to patrol and protect 10,000 with 100s rampaging the streets day and night stealing vehicles and breaking in to the few businesses we have left in the city.

And they want the folks who moved out of the city limits to move back in...LOL what a joke

You’re not entirely wrong but I don’t think it’s fair to criticize the police as “don’t give a shite”

As someone else said, they just aren’t pulling the best and brightest at that pay rate. Guys in this area who are strong, capable, and have common sense usually go offshore. Hard to convince a guy, whose dad can have him walk in the door at BP or Exxon to go work for VPPD and get shot at for spare change. Needs to be some massive overhaul in that town.

ETA: There was a video circulating Facebook a couple months back after the most recent T Cotton Bowl, where the fine citizens of Ville Platte were out ‘celebrating’ well into the night. Must’ve been a mob of at least 100. The 20-something year old (black) Officer was trying to get the crowd under control very nice and politely. In the video he looked to be by himself with no backup whatsoever trying to manage this massive crowd and they starting chanting “frick THE POLICE. frick THE POLICE. frick THE POLICE” until he just walked back to his cruiser. The mob carried on doing what they were doing prior.

That's fine, but maybe a 40k+OT salary would get better results? As in you could be much more selective.

I'd imagine, like most towns, VP has raised property taxes over and over while sales taxes are not earmarked and every increase to the sales tax is met with overwhelming opposition?

People do not realize they vote themselves into shite like this. Avoiding local taxes is cutting your nose off to spite your face, yet small towns everywhere do it.

What’s crazy is that, unless it has changed recently, Louisiana allows a police officer to be employed for up to a year before it is required that they attend a certified police academy. There were instances in the past of guys that would jump from small town department to small town department yearly to beat that law. Hard to believe that they just hand a guy a gun and badge and turn him loose on the streets to police.

Little towns like that are dying all over this state and other parts of the country. We've shifted more towards a service and information economy. The days of working at the local steel or paper mill in some small town for 40 years are gone.

This is literally the only thing I go to that shithole for. My parents are still there (hopefully not much longer) but they rather just come visit in Youngsville when they want to see us and the kids.

I’m not sure if you’re joking or not but VP didn’t have many Katrina refugees at all. Nah, VP’s decades of mismanagement, lack of jobs, poor education, lack of civil responsibility, and criminal activity going unpunished is what did this. If you drive through the town you have 3-4 generations (and a bunch of kids) living in 1 small house, built in the 1940s. The houses are old, smelly, falling down, dilapidated, and mostly unlivable my any standard. Because there’s literally no room left in the homes because 8-12 people (all ages) live in a 2 bedroom house, the youth is running the streets day and night rather than stay at home. The drugs are EVERYWHERE. Youths in the streets has resulted in wannabe gang activity, etc.

But these problems will soon engulf all Louisiana towns. Ville Platte is just one of the first dominoes to fall where it’s actually THIS bad. This is going to be all over every small town in the state soon.
