check out the West Side "A Jesus Church" in Portland
ask to meet the head pastor Dominic Dom... and Pastor Bryan Fowler...they will connect you with tons of new friends...the job will come
the lord will take care of you...
dead serious...both these men used to be our head pastors in Cary NC....just awesome people...who love the lord...they moved back to Portland.

One of my friends I know through music lives in Portland. Another, the one I have most in common with, lives just outside Portland (Milwaukie).

Man, I'm 32 and stuck in the deadest of dead-end jobs (retail managememt) carrying insurance for a family and looking back on 10 squandered years.
You seem to have few responsibilities to take with you and a decent support system to catch you if it doesnt work out. This isn't even a question.

I'd evaluate what you want to do.
If you wanna do masonry etc Portland might not be great.
Posters have suggested Nashville and I gotta agree.
Lots of building, not crazy far from home or as expensive as Portland.

Those may be good options, but another is AL. There are 3 major companies with plants in AL with another 1.6 billion dollar Toyota plant coming as well. There are also nearly 1500 smaller companies who are direct suppliers for the automotive industry in the state.
We may be the caricature of the south, but Alabama produces some great cars as well as some great military hardware (Huntsville tech with Redstone, as well as Anniston Army Depot, BAE, and General Dynamics.) There's also a Coca Cola bottling center in NE AL. So, all you O&G baws in LA and TX can keep laughing at us hillbillies while we are welcoming ALL the industries here in our state.
Lots of jobs with lots of diversity of industry here.

Moving from Arkansas to alabama is a lateral move. I'd go with Portland. Its awesome there.

Here is my advice. And take this to heart. If you’re going to spend your time making $15.00 a hour, go back to school. Figure it out with grants, scholarships, loans, etc.
You’re 33. I’m 34. I could be you. Invest in your next 30 years. Make it better than the first 30 or so.
Go to school and/or find a trade.

I’m sorry for your current employment situation, but this might be a blessing in disguise. You only live once so open your life to some new and exciting experiences, opportunities, and people!! You and I are almost the same age, and I wish I could make a fresh start like you. I wish you the best of luck with your future and hope you find happiness :)

I'm not from bama, but Huntsville is a decent little town that is growing big time. Has several breweries. Young population. I think this would be a great move if you can get a Mazda/Toyota job.
