Lol, women are so equal to men that they need to be subsidized by those same oppressively patriarchal men because they can't get enough fan support on their own to make their own money

It's the only way women's sports can get paid because revenue are generated by interest in the sport. Those revenues are used to pay players. If your sport doesn't make money like the male counterpart teams you can't pay players like the male counterpart players. Simple economics.
Truth of the matter
No one gives a shite about women's sports that don't A) play the sport or B) have a family member/ friend that plays the sport.
It's not taking anything from their athletics ability but people just don't care about them.

To be fair, the USMNT has won the CONCACAF Gold Cup seven times with the most recent being in 2021.

In a way this is the USWNT acknowledging passively that nobody will ever give a shite about them, so they used politics to secure a handout from the branch of the sport people actually watch
