I am shocked crawling into small holes may have consequences. Oh well

Wasn't his brother the one exploring the cave with him?
Yeah, I think the wife got called over after the fact. She was there for support during the rescue op.

Apparently he made a mistake thinking he was in the birth canal if I recall. Still stupid.

Man I can't watch that. 2 seconds and I felt like I was in there and couldn't breath.

I think the devs of the VR consulted with people who explored the cave. It's supposedly very accurate.
I just got a VR headset.. still figuring it out- I need to go find out more about this, it sounds neat!
Damn.. it's $15... *sigh*

You know those weird times when you pondered "What's the worst way to die?"
Burned alive, drowning, eaten by wild animals, diagnosed with incurable disease, etc... Trapped immobile upside down head first in a cave for 27 hours has to be near #1.

For some reason, in the beginning when they mention one of his arms was stuck, that gave me an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. I am sure having your arm stuck in that situation creates panic faster. Having both arms and hands in front of you can give you some since of control and security. And imagine being his family waiting on the outside.

I really like going to caves but only the ones I can walk in standing up and walk around in. No way would I go into one that I have to crawl around in.

So I was thinking about this today and had a question. For the rescue attempts they were trying to pull him out by his feet, but I'm wondering why they didn't try and shove lines with loops or something to each of his hands so that the lift point would be his hands. That way he could start bending at the waist on the way back out and they could keep lifting him further.
Though I'm guessing they thought about that but it was too tight to get anything in there that far to where he could grab it? I'm thinking about those long flexible poles that people use to fish wire through a ceiling.

How easy would it be to get that through the tunnel system?

This sounds harsh but you should sign something when you go caving like this, if I get stuck and no one can rescue me after a couple hours, bring a gun down and shoot me in the head. Its a shame he had to suffer for 27 hours.

I also think now they closed it off where you can't enter. I could be wrong though.
I'm fairly certain that they dynamited the passage where the body is to collapse the roof and completely seal that passageway. Then they filled all of the entrance points with concrete.
I think the family and the owner of the land where the cave is reached this agreement when it became obvious the body couldn't be recovered and this was going to be his final resting place.

The guy was 210 pounds. They sent in a caver at the very end and he was 125. He said he struggled some in that area right before him. He wrote a story on it detailing the timeline and what they tried.

This is a new video that randomly showed up today on my feed. I haven't watched it, but he was one of the rescuers and is answering questions.

How'd they get his body out?
They didn't, and they sealed it shut with his body still in it.

What they tried to do had worked in similar rescues in the past. Unfortunately, the main anchor point failed this time, sending him even deeper into the fissure. At that point, there wasn't enough time to reset everything.
It was three hours before any help was on scene, and then many more before they were able to make that first attempt with the pulley system. There was just no time left.
