If you guys are looking for another uplifting story check out this:

The Paria diving disaster was an incident in February 2022 in which a group of five divers working on underwater piping at Paria Fuel Trading Company's Pointe-à-Pierre facility in the Gulf of Paria, Trinidad and Tobago, were sucked into a pipeline from a hyperbaric chamber.

That makes it even worse. He was smart enough to know better not to take unnecessary risks. This is one of the most selfish acts a man can commit.

Judging by the image of him basically upside down, is that normal in caving? Would seem to me going down head first into a space you can't see is incredibly stupid.
My guess is that adrenaline kept him going

And IIRC, didn't they start to sort of move him out little by little (like several inches) a couple of times, only for it to fail and he slid a little further down and got more stuck?
They pulled him several feet upwards but the pulley system broke and the carabiner snapped back, knocking one of the rescuers out.
The problem was that the slope angled off at like 70-80 degrees right before his feet. They would’ve had to break his legs to pull him through that angled slope. Ultimately, they decidef to stay at his side and give him morphine through a vein in his leg to keep him calm until he succumbed.

I think the family and the owner of the land where the cave is reached this agreement when it became obvious the body couldn't be recovered and this was going to be his final resting place.
I wouldn’t accept that decision. Maybe it’s irrational. But, I saw "King Nine Will Not Return" and I wouldn’t leave a loved one in that position for eternity.
