So the video said they had to rescue someone from that area previously. How in the hell did they not mark that segment of the cave and basically say "do not freaking go this way you won't get out"?

From what I can remember, I think there are warning signs there. I also think now they closed it off where you can't enter. I could be wrong though.

I got stuck in a ditch drain one time with my feet sticking out. Crawled in trying to catch a big arse frog..

How did you get out? Figured it out or did someone have to pull you out?

Pretty sure I remember that they sealed off the cave entirely. Or at least the more dangerous portions of it.

The best part about caving is that you never ever have to do it.

Even more terrifying is caving UNDERWATER! I get a panic attack just thinking about it.

Don't feel sorry for him...how is this any different then the jackass that would snuggle with grizzlies?

Eh, I feel sorry for him. I wouldn't do it with a wife and small kids, but plenty of people do it regularly and are fine. I think the story is more about him making a fatal error in where he was - believing the narrow passage he was going into was the destination and that there was a turnaround at the end of it. He was doing something with objective risk, but his intention wasn't to do something death defying.

Whereas Treadwell is just a loopy idiot who was doing something genuinely nobody else does and he had no real expertise in.

sounds like Chris McCandles, don't know why people look at him as being some sort of folk hero

Yeah, he's no hero. Although candidly, I'm fine with people having interest in McCandless, so long as they're not mourning his death as some great tragedy.

He did some cool Kerouac type stuff, and many of us naturally have some envy toward some of it, and someone wrote a good book about it.

Treadwell got himself killed, another woman killed, and at least one bear killed. McCandless no doubt did great harm to his family and friends, but at least he didn't get one of them eaten alive.

I had never heard about this until now and after watching that video and reading more about it, I'm numb. What an awful way to die.

I’m claustrophobic af, if I ever even went near a place like that I’d have to have a cyanide pill between my cheek and gum just in case

To b e fair, he thought he was in a well known part of the cave. He had gotten lost. It's not like he was trying to be a daredevil.

I feel bad that the guy died but he was taking unnecessary risks that affected more than just him.
