Could kids from wealthy families say their parents cut them off when they graduated high school and now have zero income or financial means?

Also didn't Rice do something similar fairly recently?
Probably their response to that move.

That's completely up to them. As long as it's not mandated by the government I don't give a frick.
I’m pretty sure Texas is a public university and relieves tax revenues.

So 0 tax dollars. Sounds like a good thing.
They still use tax dollars. The school cannot function long term without tax dollars, so lets not act like they're doing this honestly.

And if you read the article linked, you'd see the money isn't coming from tax income.

Good on 'em, as long as there are no strings attached.

Eh I'll just keep my current salary and send the kids to trade school. College degrees are jumping the shark anyway.
I'd imagine a degree from UT would be pretty valuable

The Texas endowment dates to 1876, when the state set aside more than 1 million acres of West Texas land to support the development of the UT and Texas A&M University systems. The value of the fund shot up with the discovery of oil and the advancement of hydraulic fracturing. In May 2019, its value was $22.3 billion, according to the UT System.
Typically, royalties earned off the land are invested in stocks, bonds and other assets by the nonprofit University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Company, known as UTIMCO. Annual distributions from the fund cannot surpass 7% of the market value of itsinvestments. Two-thirds of the payout is earmarked for UT, and the remainder is for A&M.
The board approved a more than $1 billion distribution in May, and Tuesday sent an additional roughly $90 million to A&M. With the supplementary funding, the annual payout now totals about 6.86% of the fund's investments.
You guys VASTLY underestimate how much oil money the UT system has. It's insane how much land out west is theirs.

That doesnt matter, they still depend on tax dollars. They could save taxpayers $160 million elsewhere.

If they use taxpayer dollars to fund the college, what's wrong with using other funds for other purposes like this?

Then why are they taking tax dollars?

Which of course begs the question....why is the UT system still getting taxpayer dollars?

According to you they have insane amount of money. Then why are is my money going to an institution that is so deeply rich, that it can afford to just give away $160 million? Why am I giving a dime to this institution?

It's not even donor money. It's money from their oil properties in West Texas.
Even better
UT earning hundreds of millions in oil while LSU got a single wide trailer version of a oil derrick behind Alex Box...SMH

Ok. Then why is there a stupid law in place keeping the UT system from being independent of taxpayer funding?

whats obama have to do with this? He was actually a pretty moderate democrat unlike bernie, aoc and warren....
so, the family motivation will be to earn less money now if they are on the number cusp?
