The admission standards are incredibly high now at UT. The university has 18 schools now in the top 10 nationally. You have to be ridiculously smart to get in. It used to be that you had to also be able to afford to pay as well as be academically eligible. UT is moving towards the Ivy's schools... if you are eligible to get in, you're in regardless of ability to pay. If you make less than 65 you pay nothing.

But UT is a public institution and every citizen of Texas should have tuition free education.
I am sure that many of tax dollars have gone to shore up this endowment in years past.
