She was trying to go to Paris and ended up in San Francisco.
Honest mistake by United. She asked them to take her somewhere with a lot of liberal pussies, which they did.

And I suppose we may be giving her observational skills too much credit, if one of her issues is she didn't notice EVERYONE waiting at her gate move to another gate because she only spoke French.
She looks like the type that walks very slowly through the terminal. She probably showed up a bit late anyways.

You guys need to RTFA before commenting. Yes, there has to be responsibility on her part. However- United changed gates on her and didn't make an announcement in French, only English. She does not speak English. They also failed to send an email notification of the gate change. She got on the plane at the gate shown on her boarding pass.
He niece has been the spokesperson for her on this since she doesn't speak English. Per the niece, they are only looking for United employees to pay attention to their jobs so this sort of thing doesn't happen. There were multiple points along the way where an employee who was barely paying attention would have caught the error and corrected it before this lady ended up a continent further away from here destination.
Asking if people read an article before farting out a post is like asking a 5 year old if they washed their hands after going to the bathroom.

I understand the part on the airlines, but I'm sure it just gets to a point we're they are scanning and boarding and not paying too much attention.
Kind of weird that they didn't turn her around at the gate scanner.

I know right? Lucas out did himself on that one.
The fact he said "I know what you're saying, but" actually shows he has know clue wtf he was saying.
Kudos to Lucas for trolling the troll.

"San Francisco" is still "San Francisco", regardless of the language.

Well this is america. We speak english.
If they changed the gates on her, then she'd see that on the big board. Does she not know what Paris looks like in English?
And after she got on the plane, did she not hear them say several times the plane was going to San Fran? I would imagine a flight that's going to Paris, the inflight crap would be in both english and French, but even if it wasn't in French, you should still know somethign is wrong when you hear San Francisco a few times and never hear paris.
it's not the airlines job to watch over you like you're a child.

Maybe there's more to the story?
Either way, that bitch is fricking stupid.

Lucie Bahetoukilae said she took her boarding pass — marked “Newark to Charles de Gaulle” — to the gate, where a United rep scanned it and informed her that she was at the wrong gate. When Ms. Bahetoukilae screamed at the gate attendant, threatening a lawsuit and demanding that she was at the correct gate and that she be granted access, the gate attendant caved and let her board the plane
Much more likely scenario in my opinion.

I guarantee you that United as well as all of the US Flag carriers have "speakers," fluent in the departure and destination language, working international flights, both gate agents and flight attendant

But it is their job to make sure nobody gets on the plane that isn't supposed to be there.
This is 100% United's fault b/c they scanned her in and even placed her in a different seat when "her seat" was taken.
They are lucky as frick she was just a confused passenger who didn't speak English and not somebody who wanted to do actual harm to the plane.
I don't care nearly as much about her inconvenience as I do about the fact that United apparently has the biggest idiots in the skies working for them.

My understanding was, it's not so much to save money, but so as to insure the least amount of time over open water, so they would have somewhere to land, should something go wrong.
I don't think the over ocean flight plans of commercial jetliners are structured with regard to minimizing overwater paths due to potential landing areas.
I think they primarily are concerned with the shortest distance and then staying in the established flight corridors.
There is also a consideration as to prevailing wind currents at that altitude in the original structuring of the flight corridors.
See Great-circle Navigation Wiki Link for more related information.

Before the door is locked every airline I've been on tells you over the speaker where you're headed.

And I'm not saying the airline doesn't share some responsibility, they do.
Just saying she's dumb as shite too.

Didn't think about that.
A few years back, an elderly woman had gotten caught sneaking onto a plane. Supposedly she had successfully done it many times. I'm not sure how she would get pass security check, much less the gate agents.
