The real question is: does she get the frequent flier miles for both flights?

Show me the land route between Paris and Newark.
I know what you are saying (or trying to say)....but even from as far west as MSP, there's a pretty clear ocean crossing.

If she had a window seat and didn't notice the lack of an ocean, the level of stupid in this story would be off the charts.
Even if she did immediately after takeoff, what are they going to do?
Fly her arse to San Francisco and deal with it there.

Why don't the scanners recognize a boarding pass not for the flight at that gate? I've seen it happen many times...when the RJs first became popular the flight attendants always made a statement such as "if XYZ isn't your destination, you're on the wrong plane." Can you just use any BP for any flight?

They will typically fly up the coast all the way to Newfoundland before heading out over the Atlantic.
My understanding was, it's not so much to save money, but so as to insure the least amount of time over open water, so they would have somewhere to land, should something go wrong.

I am guessing a glitch when they changed the flight from one gate to another?

Accidentally flying to SFO instead of Paris?

Right but that's still several hours over water. There's also another tip that the extended daylight/night time would have provided.
Then again if she'd have noticed even a second after takeoff, they wouldn't turn back.

What kind of retard boards the wrong flight then tries to blame the airline?

This may be the pinnacle of Lucas "don't call me Ken M" P's work right here.

It is also a shorter route if I remember correctly. Due to the curvature of the earth.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome aboard Flight 183 to San Francisco. Our flight time today to San Francisco will be 5 hours and 23 minutes, at a height of 37,000 feet and 570mph"
At what point did the FA say "PARIS". Dumb arse lady.

What kind of airline allows someone to board the wrong flight, and then once on the flight with "their" seat occupied, just moves the person to a different seat?

You see her picture.
Yep, that type of retard.
She new what she was doing. When they didn't turn her around, all she saw was dollar signs.

several factors, great circle route, winds, equal time points are usually the determining factors and they are all factored in each morning when they build the tracks

And I suppose we may be giving her observational skills too much credit, if one of her issues is she didn't notice EVERYONE waiting at her gate move to another gate because she only spoke French.
