Well, it was across the board. The number is going to appear large in southern states, but it’s not a windfall for a lot of people in places like San Fran or NY, which were hit hard by the virus. They could have adjusted it for cost of living, but that would have made things more difficult and they were trying to get the bill passed as soon as possible.

It is not a windfall for 100% of people I know on it. Hardworking people who don’t want to be unemployed. Their new health insurance payments are more than one week’s worth of their new High Dollar Unemployment Checks.

I’m just saying that is surprised me that if you made say $35000 Annual pay as an employee, you could make $42000 annual pay on unemployment.
I would have thought unemployment would be a bit less than what you make working. Otherwise many people would choose not to work until unemployment expired IF the amount of money was greater not to work.

Isn't unemployment an insurance paid by the company and the rates/premiums are based off of passed experience ?
When you apply the unemployment office contacts the employer and they can approve or decline based off of the reason your employment ended (layoff, fired, resigned etc etc).
So will all these companies have extraordinary premiums once this is over ?

Median household income in LA is $47k/year. A married couple can currently collect the equivalent of $88k/year in unemployment benefits. That’s without stimulus checks.

Yep. There has been a thread almost every day about this, yet there was maybe just one or two when the Fed injected $500 billion into the stock market. There have been few on the exploitation of the PPP program. None that I've seen on the minimal oversight implemented with the PPP program. Yet a low wage earner temporarily getting a little extra has this board screaming at the sky.

All these comparisons to an annual salary increase. This increase lasts 4 mths. Were I to stay unemployed for the rest of the year, I would have to live on La.'s $247 a week.

The point is is four times the amount they were pulling in before. Completely irrelevant if it’s a lot of money to someone or not.

You have to factor in benefits as well. Now these people have to pay out the arse for health insurance.

Yes, lets not help people hurt by the shutdown because they might be getting a lot of money. Seriously, 11k will not last you very long if you have been out of work since March. I bet if we were buying bullets and bombs for a different war you would not be complaining.
