I think people are either being obtuse or misunderstanding why folks think 11k is too much.

Using that picture as an example.

Married Couple prior to Covid is making 2888. Lets call this figure their "Made Whole per month" value.

In one month (counting all forms of income obtained), they made 11k and some change.

This does not include every month thereafter of them making above their pay rate.

In one month, they acquired enough monetary resources to keep them whole for 3.5 months.

That seems extreme no?



We created a sub-population of people now who will wait out longer for further monetary resources because well, the Government made it more lucrative. Clearly.

Wrong. I have a mortgage. In my last job, with 25 years of experience, I was paid $15.45 an hour. I made less than people are making on UI. This is common for many here in LA.

The FAQ is pretty clear that whatever measures LA will take to get employees to return to work have not been implemented yet.

Louisiana has acknowledged that they can cut unemployment benefits for people who refuse to return to work. But they aren’t going to do so until after the stay-at-home order is lifted. Note that this doesn’t necessarily mean May 15 - the order will still exist in some form throughout a “phased” reopening. So we will see if JBE chooses to reinstate the work search requirement whenever the next EO comes out.
