Seems like something that makes a lot of sense.

I believe they should change it. Not for the sake of changing it, but for the fact that it should reflect reality and should have happened years ago. What would Zydeco and Louisiana cuisine be like if not for blacks/creoles.

However, the fact that it was proposed by a Yankee makes it a little bitter.

Nah.

It's not the state flag. It's the flag of the region settled by the Cajuns. If someone in another part of the state wants to honor the creole influence, that's cool too.

Wow, he is probably still getting paid by the university and working a second job pulling down 2 checks all on the tax payer dime.

I totally get that, and they have made huge contributions to our culture, but the Creoles already have their own flag.

There was a substantial German immigration into St. Landry and surrounding parishes. Shouldn't there be something on the flag to symbolize the Germans... I wonder what it should be?

Can’t they ever just leave shite alone?
Is that what you would have said to the legislature in 1974?

Can’t recall the significance of 74, but if the present has any bearing on it, probably.

I know. There are also plenty creoles/blacks in acadiana, unless I’m mistaken?

Are you stupid or dumb? Do you know why the area is called Acadiana?

In the OP, it says the La. legislature decreed in 1974 that this Cajun flag would be the flag of Acadiana. The pearl-clutchers in this thread appear to treat that as some kind of sacred edict.

Here's a map of Acadiana:

The professor is correct in that way more than just Cajuns live here and had something to do with its history.

But, you know, the legislature did something in 1974, so that is the same as Moses descending from the mount with the tablets.

No, yes

I apologize, I’m not acutely aware of the demographics and who lives where in south Louisiana.

So you’re telling me that only Cajuns historically lived in and influences that region, absolutely no one else?

I'm telling you that Acadiana is named Acadiana because of the large population of Acadians who moved there after they were exiled from Canada.
