Starting at noon today many of the drivers will be on strike. So if you regularly use any of the two be prepared to use another mode of transportation

Because they can’t figure out how to be a ride share service on their own.

I don’t understand how an “employee” who can literally turn on or off and app and work at will would consider themselves full time and not a contractor. Also, I have been in multiple cars where the driver has both lyft and Uber turned on and take whichever call is best for them. These drivers can f-off in my opinion. They have no idea what they are getting into if they go this route.

Wait . . .

Aren't they just independent contractors using a rideshare app to find customers?

Drivers are also expected to stage protests against Uber and Lyft in at least eight cities around the U.S., including New York, Chicago and San Francisco. Overnight, the strikes kicked off in Australia with Uber drivers in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne staging brief protests, according to Australia's Transport Union.

The protests come ahead of Uber's anticipated IPO (initial public offering) on the New York Stock Exchange on Friday which could put the ride-hailing firm's valuation as high as $91.5 billion.

Lyft lost over $9/share last quarter. Think about that.

Yea I wouldn’t touch those stocks besides an IPO day flip. Other than buying in pre-market then selling a few hours later, I’d avoid them

So long as they aren’t striking in about 40 minutes, I don’t care.

General Statement: Uber & Lyft drivers are not our society’s best and brightest.

Thanks for the logistical PSA though.

I don't have anything substantive to add to this thread. I just wanted to come in here and say

GET OUT OF MY CAR NOW!

It’s a payday loan scam basically but nobody is twisting these drivers’ arms and making the drive.

If there are broad numbers of people who are impacted by this stirke, perhaps the drivers are more valuable than what they are paid.

It used to be political AF and cost a ton up front to get a cab license in places like NYC.
Ride sharing has fixed that.
I don't see why these drivers are bitching?
Uber / Lyft etc seem like a great deal. Work when you want.

Why do they think they should be anything other than contractors? It's gig work and always has been.
