Sounds like a good time to become a Lyft or Uber driver for a few weeks. Lower supply!

frick these whiners. Ain't nobody forcing them to work for either company.

The average Uber/Lyft driver is an idiot. I swear they lose all sense of direction when they turn that app on.

I never wanted a taxi or anything similar until the folks at Uber/Lyft updated the hailing/billing/etc. with modern technology.

Even if there were 1MM cabs in my city, I'd still use Uber/Lyft instead if the alternative is to call someone and give them a damn address for a cab.

All you have done is make a beautiful case of how the free market will innovate and thrive if the government will just kindly piss off.

My belief is that uber/lyft should follow the same ESTABLISHED laws as taxis, and operate as just another taxi company. Anything else is not debatable

stupid. The taxi industry was/is a complete joke prior to Uber. As you have pointed out, this is due to massive government intrusion and artificial barriers to entry. If you allowed Uber to be regulated the same as taxi companies, then you would end up with the same shite we had prior to Uber.

Guess I'll just grab a taxi at the airport now.

Uber/Lyft drivers are far from irreplaceable.

Hell the strike will probably fall flat on its face as soon as some drivers see the surge pricing during rush hour.

I would mind doing it occasionally if money was tight. I've called a few times. Last one I had the guy was a lawyer and did it for fun...pulled up in a newer Benz. Was pretty sweet but weird lol

I guess they should look for another job then...i know, silly talk.

So,I take it you, along with everyone else who thinks they are worth more than they are paid, will just go find another job before ever asking your current employer for a raise.

What sorta fricking a-hole turns uber into a primary source of income or a career choice?

That shite was never meant to be more than a supplement, a part time gig and now all these slacker dipshits who made and continue to make stupid choices in life are demanding more than what this was ever intended to be.

I did it for a while when I was in search of work and it was definitely fun but in the end I ended up losing money. I would like to activate my status again as the business loss was a definite help on my income taxes.

I am against the strikes because nothing is forcing these ppl to work here, but...

Why exactly are Uber and lyft’s profit margins so insanely high compared to avg economy-wide rates of return?

They also want Uber's commission lowered from 25% to 15%. Uber is covering the marketing portion of finding passengers for their drivers and the driver's insurance costs while they're carrying passengers-for-hire.

They choose to be 1099 contractors. They can deduct mileage on a schedule C, whereas being a W2 employee they can not deduct the mileage.

There’s a ton of Uber/LYFT drivers making over $85K/yr on the west coast and certain areas of the east coast. Drivers are becoming more greedy, that’s about it.

Why don’t they just get a real job

the overwhelming majority of drivers do have real jobs and just use this as a side gig for more money.

I have had a handful of uber drivers that are foreigners that do it as a full time gig though, but these are your "work as hard as I can to provide for my family" types and it's paid off well for them. These are the ones that will start driving around 5am though making runs to the airport and drive until 7 or 8pm.

You are missing the point. its not about what you want and how it's better for you, it's about a level playing field. My objection is why were they allowed to bypass laws.

It's like only allowing 50 restaurant permits at a fee of 10M per permit in a city. then turning around and allowing limitless food trucks with no permit fee.

You can't really hate the restaurants for long wait times because 10k people want to goto 50 restaurants, and it's not really fair either to claim that food trucks were innovative when the city was shutting down lemonade stands, girl scout cookie tables, and church bake sales as "food establishments" ...but then all of a sudden decide that food trucks are mobile and dont fall under the definition of "establishment".

No, you're missing your own point.

Every "problem" you're describing is a result of the government interfering in the free market. And your proposed solution is to have the government interfere more in the free market.

C'mon man.
