I think Mark Emmert wanted LSU to buy up all the land around Nicholson all the way to the bridge and do just that. Like what the Water Campus is doing, just on a larger scale.

Think about badass that would be.

Have an entire stretch of Nicholson with new college apartments with mixed use commercial real estate on street level.

All the way to downtown. Just a long row of awesome.

With the way Tiger Land is being completely ruined by Section 8, LSU students could really use a concentrated area to live, party, etc. And it would inevitably lead to more downtown foot traffic.

Again, for the third time in this thread, I'd like to say frick Broome. She's the worst thing to happen to Baton Rouge in 100 years.

stroubes used to be great...they had an underrated steak and that duck duo was one of the better dishes in town.

The original duck breast dish when they first opened and Justin Ferguson, chef/owner of BRQ, running the kitchen was Stroubes heyday

yeah I was trying to remember the name of the guy that left and that's when it started to slide big time

Tuesdays for oysters and beer was also a solid special

The Mall of Louisiana seems to be struggling as well. Smash Burger is suing the owners for lying about Food Court Sales in their pitch to get Smash Burger as a tenant. Smash Burger wants their losses paid back and out of their lease.

Could you imagine a street car that went from downtown down Nicholson to ben hur and another one that ran parallel government from airline to downtown.

Stroubes Friday night, one of downtown's oldest restaurants,

You sure it's the oldest ... I had friend who worked there when it first open... that couldn't have been more than 10 years ago...

Ive always wondered who owns all that property between McKinley and tin roof. They bought it all up when I was in school and I guess are just sitting on it.

LSU is interesting bar wise though. North gate bars never seem to able to stay open for the last couple of decades with a couple of exceptions and you obviously don’t need a train to get there

Who did you know? I worked there when it first opened too.

Only restaurants, if I recall right, open at the time and still open today was Little Village, Poor Boy Lloyds, Downtown Seafood and Grill, Tsunami and Capital City Grill (same owner as Stroubes but I believe has since sold it)

I really hope some rich people throw a lot of money at Kip to get him to run again. Last I heard he wasn't interested, but he's got to see all the stuff he accomplished being undone by Broome.

I know he can't stand her or her policies.

They should let Kip name his price for it and throw the bank at him.

Kip was the best Baton Rouge mayor ever as he was as reasonable as it could get for a democrat where he was focused on improving downtown which had considerable success, improving infrastructure like the green light plan, managing the city's finances as well as he could.

Kip Holden needs to come back and save us from this piece of shite called Sharon Broome.

If y’all would’ve voted for bobby Simpson instead of virtue signaling we’d have a wall around north Baton Rouge by now

Smashburger is extremely underwhelming.

They had to close down the one on Jefferson/Corporate too.

The mall is kind of a captive audience but there are much better burgers in BR otherwise.
