There is also a massive failure of a library but you have to park along the streets if available or blocks away in the parking garage. I am sure the 2 dozen residents living in the downtown condos will love it though if it ever opens. I guess if you work down there it is convenient. You know what else is convenient? Electronically checking out the book you want to read from their Overdrive app saving you a trip to the library.

perkins rowe has a good bit of restaurant and store closings as well

same problem, apartments were overpriced from the get go. I had a friend live there and it was nice and convenient, but at it's peak he said maybe 50% of the apartments had been rented.

we went downtown for dinner for the first time in several years. we parked a few blocks up Florida and walked to Po Boy Lloyd's and then down 3rd toward North. the only people on the sidewalk at 9 pm on a Friday night were panhandlers, and a meth/crack head who may have been panhandling but wasn't able to form the sentence or idea. does it get busier when lsu is back?

My car got broken into at Perkins Rowe a couple years ago at like 8 PM on a Friday and my wife legitimately felt unsafe because of some "loiterers" as we were walking around.

frick that place. Horribly executed.

The rumors are that the city has cracked down on open containers for a few blocks on 3rd street to target bars owned by people that were not friendly to the Broome administration. That's extremely corrupt if true.

The bar owners themselves asked BRPD to crack down on open containers so as to eliminate an element they thought was chasing people away.

I used to love having fun at the Downtown bars but it has certainly lost its luster compared to 2010-14

I hope Happy's and B&T survive... Good Times

North street or North blvd? One way is going to have a lot more traffic than the other.

They need to try and turn it into a min-Beale St. and allow open containers.

I can understand charging a cover to an 18 year old who is just liability but it chaps my arse when a bar makes me spend money to go inside and spend money.

That's to keep out the clientele that orders a water with extra lemons and stays all night.

maybe its bc im old and live in southeast BR but none of those places every excite me enough to go downtown. I used to love it around 2010.

Now if they opened a brewery or two in the area id definitely go.

Yeah, this is what I heard. Too many trashy people were hanging out in the street next to the trashy bars.

Happys still does really well. B&T seems kinda hit or miss from the last couple times I've been.

It will be busier, but if the current business dont get their shite together the downward spiral will continue.

Wife and I went to Stroubes Friday night, one of downtown's oldest restaurants, and there were only a handful of tables in there. That's party because the food there is average at best though, thank god we had a gift card. Leaving tough we passed a few people and thats it. DEAD. This time of year you have other places that are drawing the crowd like Red Stick Social. With the gentrification of government street in Mid-City it is only going to get worse for dt when you have places like RSS and mid-city beer garden opening soon. people are going to want to try out whats new

Downtown BR is dead and will be for the foreseeable future. Instead of building condos and townhomes, they built extremely overpriced apartments and hotels. If 3rd street is ever going to be a nice place to go, they are going to need residents living downtown. Other than that, it’ll continue the way it is now.

And it's only been open for 9 maybe 10 years.

They need to improve the areas between it and LSU and connect the two areas somehow. It would generate a lot more interest in living within a few miles of downtown and would drive more foot traffic. It would also make downtown become more attractive to students with daddy's money and young professionals.

Again, thanks Broome. You piece of shite human.

If you read the “top 10 cities in the SEC” thread on the rant you would think BR had a thriving downtown and attractions

Yea I definitely wouldn't say that but it was a hell of a lot busier from 2009-2015 than it is now. Kip had made it priority to revitalize the area; Broome is ensuring it falls back into despair.
