Turning to the OT for some helpful advice as a 15 year poster

Warning, long post: As the title says, I’m looking for some helpful advice(and expecting typical OT advice along the way lol).
I moved my mom into my house 7 years ago to care for her. I even built her a handicap accessible apartment in my old shop.
She is now where she needs 24/7 care and as a single father of 3, I can’t provide that and keep my job in order to care for my kids.
We looked into a nursing home which is roughly $8000 a month. She’s 71 and her total retirement income is around $3000 monthly. I applied for Medicaid and even though she can’t even cover half a months stay at the nursing home, they said she makes too much to qualify.
I am now in the process of putting my house on the market that’s been in my family for almost 40 years in order to try and cover her stay until/unless I can find a nurse or sitter to be here while I’m at work. Of course I’d still have to be able to pay for that and my normal bills until the house sales.
The last thing I want to do is sale the house bc I’m still going to have to pay for a new smaller place to go along with the nursing home. I tried a go fund me and didn’t raise a single dollar even though I see people on the news raising hundreds of thousands for unbelievable crimes.
It might just be my bad luck bc I’m the same person that had 3 mini strokes like 8 years ago and the Dr wouldn’t let me work for a year and the gov told me I didn’t qualify for temporary disability or unemployment.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, but as a single father of 3, my income can only stretch so far, so any suggestions are welcomed even if that suggestion just gets me another month or two of time to think and research. Thanks in advance.

your mother is 71. You have three children you are responsible for. You have to choose. Choose your children

I don't know anything about her medical situation but look into moving her assets into a special needs trust. May allow you to get her medicaid.

I feel you, brother. I have been through this somewhat with my own parents, but not to your level.
The only suggestion I have is to try to look into finding some in home care. There are some out there and their costs typically are maybe in the $25/ hour range. You can get them to come in for a few hours a day to help spell you and provide a break.
Godspeed to you.

Are you sure you want to sell a place that you may be able to house everyone? Like you said, you will still have pay for another place when you sell this one.
Do you have any other family that could help at all?

Have you looked into a home healthcare person to stay with her?
There are older women out there that do that type of thing. They aren't real nurses, more like a home helper.

Use her $3000/mo to pay somebody to sit with her.

My advice. Talk to a lawyer!!
She has Medicare. She needs Medicaid too. She/you will get denied. A lawyer needs to help you navigate this.

Does she just need someone to sit with her 247 or does she need medical attention all day?

We tried this for my Mom. $25/hr for 8hrs/day x 30 days = $6K/ month. Visiting Angels. Not as advertised. They are a franchise and are basically just babysitters.
You can get decent assisted living care for $6K/month. $8K is for full blown nursing home care.
