You, sir are a man of impeccable taste. Spearmint is by far the best flavor and there nothing else really close.
Unfortunately the Crappy “snow cone” stands here do not have it.

Friend,
I'm not sure what you are referring to when you mention a prior location for Casey's.
I grew up 4 blocks from Casey's and made almost daily walks as a child to the present location since the mid 1970s.
Fun fact, the Walgreens on the opposite side of W. Esplanade at Clearview was supposed to be built on the corner near Casey's.
Walgreens had secured deals for every piece of property they needed except for the land occupied by the snowball stand.
They owners rejected a 7 figure offer for that tiny parcel.
There is a lot of money to be made in snowballs if you have the right spot.
I'd be shocked if there is a more profitable stand than Casey's.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Friends,
I want to respond to each of you in the same post, not to clutter the board.
AUriptide, Mother is doing well tonight. She is getting older, so I do worry about her health. Ultimately, she, like all of us, is in God's hands. Each day is a gift that we can embrace or reject. She embraces her days.
wfallstiger, I hope you will share more memories of this stand, including details like time period and if you have them, pictures.
GeauxTigerTM, there is indeed an old Time Saver across the street, downriver. There is also an open Tastee just blocks away. Harahan preserves some of the most authentic New Orleans culture better than any other neighborhood.
mauser, spearmint tastes a little too fresh for me. If I was nailed down to one final flavor that I had to eat for the rest of my life, it would be old fashioned nectar soda. I remember we used to buy bottles of it at K&B and pour on vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream that Ms. Mae would whip freshly. Delicious. Apparently there is a silent rivalry that Cincinnati is trying to start, claiming they invented Nectar Soda. The records clearly indicate that south Louisiana had nectar soda in Civil War days, a full generation before it arrived in Ohio.
Cosmo, Plum St. did make the list, just not the Top 10 list. With a score of 24, its final ranking was #12. Ultimately, bland flavors, relatively high prices, and not enough seating prevented it from entering the Top 10 this year. During my year at Tulane, I ate more Plum St snoballs than Ms. Mae sandwiches. I honestly probably had 200 that year because Tulane was trying to give out of state students the authentic New Orleans experience. Almost every day, walking through campus, Plum St had a little table set up somewhere, handing out free snoballs. I felt obligated to accept one any time I was offered. Not a single one impressed me because the sauce was so bland. I also do not like the takeout boxes -- I would much prefer a plastic Mardi Gras collectible cup, like at Hansen's, for the larger snoballs.
Bourre, I will try Goodies. Chalmette is such a distance and it requires so many bridge crossings I rarely travel there unless the Algiers Ferry is down and I need to get to the Westbank.
ClientNumber9, you are too kind, but my talents were made exactly for this place and for you, my dear friends.
Obtuse1, if we are ever in Hawaii, I will remember your suggestion and follow your worthy recommendation.
bigberg2000, the list only includes snoball stands currently operating. As we discussed last week, Rizan's is a worthy all-time Top 10 candidate.
Macintosh504, you are precise and correct. Tell them to go low and slow. There is a special way to order at all the snoball stands, and if you don't, you will may not receive the best results.
Blitzed, seeing that you are a lover of snoballs, perhaps you would be interested in applying for a position at TulaneLSU Snoball Tours of New Orleans. In conjunction with TulaneLSU Poorboy Tours of New Orleans, I can see us taking over the tour market, so long as you are charismatic, virtuous, and tell a good story.
jflsufan, your aunt sounds like a lovely person. I have never been to Buck's, and perhaps next time I take the Chalmette Ferry with Mother, Buck's will be one of our Westbank destinations.
Jake88, Sal's does not serve a very good snoball. But there is so much more to what a snoball is than taste. Sal's has the atmosphere and history, and it was just enough to nudge them into the Top 10.
STEVED00, Sno-La makes a gourmet snoball that tastes good, but it lacks acceptable pricing, as well as good outdoor congregating areas. It has no history. Perhaps in twenty years it will make the Top 10, but it has a lot to prove before getting there.
djangochained, I agree completely. Droopy's was a surefire Top 10 stand.
soccerfut, as always.
HurricaneDunc, the Westbank is underrepresented, as I spend so little time there, and the time I do spend is not getting snoballs. Perhaps one day you could bring me one from your recommendation.
Tiger985, perhaps I was hallucinating, but I remember at some point a Casey's on West Metairie that had a giant clown on the roof. I did not know how long the West Esplanade Casey's has been there, and appreciate you sharing that information.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Barq’s was invented in Biloxi Mississippi

Friend,
There is much debate about when Barq's root beer was actually invented. I have heard good arguments for a 1893 date while the Barq brothers, who founded the Barq's Brothers Bottling Company just a few years earlier, still lived and operated in New Orleans. The Biloxi argument is less substantiated and Coca Cola, which now owns Barq's, has done nothing to help settle the matter.
Regardless of where it was invented, Barq's is as much a part of New Orleans culture as is Zapp's potato chips, and it is celebrated as such.
Yours,
TulaneLSU
