How are you setting the hook? If you’re not doing it already, the correct move is a strip set, which I usually describe as “elbow the guy behind you.” I usually wait a half a beat or so before doing this when fishing top water. The rod stays pointed at the fish for this. Once the hook is in, you can start using the rod. Don’t put them on the reel, they’ll just go get hung up in something. If a bass needs to be on the reel they’ll put themselves there.

I go 0x or bigger for bass leaders. If it’s a small pond with small bass you can likely go smaller but I’ve had big bass blow up on poppers on 1x or 2x and snap it immediately. They abrade the hell out of leaders too so check after every fish and re-tie if it’s getting abraded.

I don't know about the NO area, but flies are plenty easy to order. The pultz poppers and sliders are AWESOME for topwater.

purchase here

clousers are great and you can get them pretty much anywhere.

Bennet's lunch/brunch money is another good one. I used to order directly from him but I think you can get them from most places that sell online now.

I can’t remember if the first was one or two nights but we basically told them we had had enough and were leaving.

Second we had at some hippie birthing center with a midwife
We were home about 4 hours after the birth. Highly recommend.

We started at about 18 months.
take a look at seek outside. I've got the divide 4800 as a "mainly for lightweight backpacking but can also handle hunting/meat hauling" pack. They have some other models that flip that balance and are designed for hunting first. Made in Colorado.

they don't bother me in my gun, but I've put a few through my kid's 20 that has a youth LOP stock on it. The knuckle on my thumb hits my cheekbone without fail
Another vote for Hernandos. We like the Ditch as well.

The Saturday show was incredible. Damn near perfect set list too.

A person can chill at the camp and check his cell cam and see a gobbler (or deer) on it in real time and go out there and shoot it. There is no world where that constitutes “fair chase”.

Most people that do that have Grindr accounts for sure

A Ballistic Tip that's too fragile at 3000 fps may perform well at 2500 fps.

Yep. Oldest son shoots 100gr ballistic tips out of a .260 and his lefty brother shoots the skinnier 95 grain version out of a .243. Both started around 2400fps and they kill fantastically with good blood.

Get a reloading press and roll your own.
Those of you who have switched, are you mostly in a major city or do you spend time in remote areas?
I think a lot of it comes down to how much you practice. When I was growing up, my dad was the stereotypical shoot 3 rounds before the season to make sure it's still on paper and call it a year type of hunter so as a result I was too. I was shaking nervous for every deer I shot, even when I starting shooting a little more. Then sometime in my mid-late 20's I decided I needed to really learn how to shoot and started spending significant time doing that and the nervousness went away seemingly overnight. Now I will still get butterflies when I first spot something exciting but they immediately go away when I get behind the rifle as my brain shifts from "hunting" to "shooting."

I started archery last year with lots of practice and found the same thing. Lots of excitement before the shot and after the hit, but from the decision to get ready to draw to the release my brain went to "shooting" mode.

Defeet. Woolly bully if I’m just sitting like duck hunting. One of the mid or lightweight wools if I’m walking. Unfortunately they quit making my favorite mid weight model.

San Saba county
45, light north wind
8 year old shooting a lefty rem 700 in .243 with 95gr nosler ballistic tip hand loads.

And he connected! Got his first deer, a nice 8. He’s been hunting hard this year with no luck until today.

I made a mistake and let excitement get the better of me and got out the blind too soon. Turned what would have been an easy drive the truck to it recovery into a damn long track across a major creek with 30’ tall banks. He stayed positive though and did a great job helping to find blood. That drag out whipped my arse but he is on cloud 9.

Dallas–Fort Worth – The only Southern thing here is how fast the city falls apart at the possibility of snow.

I don't think either of these view themselves as "Southern"

Fort Worth thinks it's Dodge City in 1880
Dallas thinks it's New York
