Boy starts the second half of U13 travel soccer this week and we were all emailed the schedule. It’s crazy to look at something like this and feel anything but smothered, but it’s bittersweet...pretty sure this is his last season. Once he starts school sports I assume this is all over. He’ll go to an all boys school from 7th thru 12th grade, and they offer all sorts of athletic opportunities...and a new ‘team’.

Oh well, cheers to all the travel families out there, here’s to one more. Only positive encouragement from the sidelines...team practice 2-3 times a week and...

Nothing like giving your kid an inflated sense of self worth IN YOUR life. Screw that.

Unless my kid was very, very good with a small chance of going pro and an excellent chance of getting a scholarship then I'd say a big nope. It's not about money, it's about time. My daughter played travel softball and overall I regret it. So much of the family's time was devoted to one family member's pursuit.

He’s our only child, this is literally only 3 years of our life. I think we’ll manage.

I mean no disrespect, but why would we care what your son's sports schedule is?

Why would this be his last season?

You do realize the good high school soccer players still play club soccer right? If they are good enough they play with some of the most elite players in clubs.

High school sports is a joke

If I read that correctly, it appears your kid is in 6th grade?!! This is overkill for a kid that young. Put him on a local club team that mainly plays in the region you live in. If he’s good enough, you will know when he plays high school ball.

There’s more. He registers for school in Feb and will start training with them soon after. They’ll do a summer ball schedule with school too.

Yea, high school soccer is below this level, but they also offer football, track, lacrosse, sailing...he’ll have a new team to play for and there’s plenty to do.

If he makes the regional ODP squad this year we’ll see. I doubt it.
