Well you can kiss that white wedding goodbye. The day that bag of softball equipment comes home is the day a lot of parents realize their daughter is not interested in men

Soccer is for kids who cant play a real sport. Just above cross country.
My son played competitive soccer, quit and never looked back nor missed one minute of it and it make weekends a delight.
But to say soccer is for kids that can’t play a real sport is comical. Every school sport he’s played since then like football and baseball is a walk in the park compared to soccer.

This is literally the opposite of what’s going on. There’s plenty of time to play Fortnite.

People knock football but it is nice to be in a sport where they only play one game a week.

That schedule looks like a rock band's tour schedule

I played a variation of travel baseball but not to the extreme of the OP. My parents made a ton of friends with the other parents on the team and it became a social thing as much as a sporting event. It was intense though and I’m not sure I would want it for my kids.

Is your kid black & a little taller than average?

Does your boy absolutely love it and have aspirations of a college scholarship? If not that’s a lot of time and money invested....
I’d consider IF my kid really proved they enjoyed it and worked for it.

You should take that time and resources and get him advanced college prep. Travel sports are a huge waste of time and money.

Not even close
That schedule is weak. A couple friendlys, a few training sessions which is nothing but practice and the rest are tournaments that they will likely only play 2 or 3 matches the entire weekend.
Y’all are so dramatic, reminds me of a bunch of women.

This is something that is overlooked based on all that I see with the other parents that I know who do the travel thing.
We decided to just support our local playground since my wife grew up playing there. The level of coaching and play was not good at all, but my son had fun and that's good enough for me. If he would have shown a lot of passion for it and asked about travel ball, we would have done it, but not on an extreme level.
Last year he started with beach volleyball and we made three out of state tournaments. Talk about a fun time for both the kids and the parents.

I think club competitive travel soccer is great for the overall social development of the child, when done within reason. Having a healthy mix of home matches, a few travel friendly matches (within an hour from your home field), and a few tournaments are reasonable. I'm allowing my child to do it because it teaches them healthy competition, teamwork, social skills, comradery, etc. When we travel to tournaments, the kids and parents have a blast. The parents drink and cut up, and the kids bunk with each other in hotel rooms, go out to restaurants together, etc.
Good post and pretty much sums us up...but in baseball. We don't play near the schedule Gaston's kid is though. One and sometimes two tournaments a month but no more than that. The coach played D1 baseball so the kids are getting quality instruction but he believes kids should have time off to be kids and thats one of the main reasons we chose to play with them even though there were better teams that wanted my dude to come play.
This sums us up to a tee...

The rest of the world considers soccer the only real sport, and in 20 years or less when football is no longer played in high school it will be looked at the same way in the U.S.

Expensive but you’ll make some amazing memories. Money well spent, IMO.

My daughter played travel softball and overall I regret it. So much of the family's time was devoted to one family member's pursuit.
I actually never thought of it this way...

I’d ditch the ODP sessions. It’s a complete waste of time if he doesnt plan on playing next year.
