staying in their lanes when attacking

That's tactical.

Technical is ball and body control... footwork, hip shaping, and the ability to command the ball. Technical development is severely lacking in the US, and generally why the men get their asses handed to them in international competition. They lack full command of the ball, so the one-touch passing and ball movement as a team is very inconsistent. They can dribble and make long passes pretty well but that's not valuable in high level play.

Receiving the ball, passing with accuracy and weight, finishing, and all the mechanics involved for those must be developed. US coaches don't do that. Running around a track or a field doesn't do that either.

Your daughter will do well in her private training sessions by focusing on the mechanics of the game, developing the technical ability of her students. She can make good cash doing that, instead of just making the players strong and fast like most coaches/trainers in the US. Physical/conditioning is only one part of the game, but for some reason that's the emphasis in the US soccer world.

I’m friends with someone on Facebook and they just finished their travel ball season. These are her sons pitching stats(9U):

49 games(team)
47.2 innings pitched over 21 games
236 batters faced
847 pitches

How anyone thinks it’s ok for a 9yo to throw that many pitches over 21 games blows my mind. The fact that the parents are cool with it is even more concerning. For research/stat/comparison purposes, his name is Ethan.

Asymmetrical living has consequences

I view these folks in the same light as cross fitters = good principles, poor applications (often driven by a circle jerk of egocentricity...)

I respect their work ethic, but do not envy them

There are long term consequences that these folks seem blissfully unaware of including

physical damage to the athlete - very few of these kids have the physical prep required to be balanced (look to every major sport having a seasonal rythym)

Social damage to the family unit - many of these folks are running around during the week and weekends eating like shite with no schedule for other children “along for the ride”

The irony is that the mindset of these folks is likely aspiring to raise a youngster who will one day “have it all”. If said youngster does achieve that status, they will in all likelyhood look back on the “travel” experience and realize the long term folly in subjecting themselves and their future children to this...

A truly balanced individual who understands the economics of time management should inherently realize this

In general, stay balanced
Asymmetry comes with dysfunction/ consequences (ask Tiger Woods...)

What these parents don’t understand is this: If you’re good enough, they will find you. Go play for your school, get invited to camps, get invited to all star games. What these parents can’t seem to conceive is that some kids just aren’t as skilled as others.

Probably because only football and basketball have full rides....look at the athleticism of those players vs baseball...height / size requirements vs baseball

The club coaches are the ones that are connecting the kids with the colleges. At least that’s the promise. In many cases that’s true.
This is the reason so many parents are involved.

What I found was a group of highly competetive parents with all sorts of issues. At times it was enjoyable but there were some miserable times.

My kids generally enjoyed it. We tried to keep it all in perspective

I'd rather go fishing with my dad than travel ball.

Dude I work with complains about it all the time. He skips most his sons tournaments because he’s not a sports fan.

These kids don’t start playing for their school, go to camps and all star games until they are 14-15 years old.

What are they supposed to do until then?

Travel/tournament ball for 7-12 year olds is the only option they have. 13-14 is a weird year because most kids are either quitting or their teams start breaking up and they aren’t playing on their school summer teams yet.

So, I’m not sure what you mean by if “they’re good enough they’ll find you”. If they don’t play how will “they” find you?

And for the most part it’s not about being “found”. Maybe the kids just enjoy playing baseball?? Is that so bad?

That’s only 40 pitches a game and 2.2 innings a game.

That’s below average

Sounds like his parents and coach know what they’re doing
