They are either drinking Miller lite at the bar or beers they brought into the hotel.

My kids won’t be living the travel ball life. I see to many wasted childhoods in that lifestyle.
OTOH, these parents are spending time with their children but I could see how it can be taken too far.

I feel bad for families with more than one kid. While Jaxtyn is taking his cuts at the plate, Brylee is sitting in the bleachers storing up daddy issues that will strike with a vengeance when she hits puberty.

Most likely they travel for cheer as well, at least from what I've seen in my neck of the woods.

Jim I knew one family that was exactly like that. They had two other kids and yes they couldn't have much of a life outside of going to baseball fields to watch their younger brother play baseball. I often think about how those two siblings turned out and how much resentment or any they had towards the brother and the parents as they got older? BTW the brother did get a scholarship to a junior college sure hope it was all worth that.

Like to the MLB or just college scholarship?

These threads are like being on steroids and viagra for some posters.
Usually it's the same regurgitated, lame jokes. Surprisingly, the first few posts in this thread weren't like that.

It just seems like anything they can get. Like I mentioned earlier the only kid that I know that got drafted from all the teams my oldest son played on growing up was JC flowers out of Florida st. He was always a stud but his dad was an arse and he thought about no one else but JC in those tournaments. The other kids got scholarships to Charleston southern, JU, smaller schools etc. Good for them but they spent alot more time especially when they got older (16-18) at those showcase tournaments.

I spent the money (approx. $5K/yr) and traveled around with my daughter for 3 years. Granted we never went more than 1 State away either side and had a lot of tournaments that where a day drive back and forth. She had/has talent but never did I nor do I think she is getting a scholarship to play after high school. With her experience she started Varsity as a 7th grader (Private school) and was team MVP that year. She enjoyed it and I enjoyed spending the time with her as my wife typically didn't make the trips to stay at home with our other two. When she decided to stop playing travel I was both happy and upset. I was happy to have my weekends back so I could see if I still knew how to play golf (turns out I lost my swing). I was upset because we had made some great friends and I felt that I had wasted the previous 3 years (they were not wasted, I spent quality time with my daughter and gave her confidence that will last a life time).
Most on this board likes to dog travel ball; but it has some positives if you don't treat it as the be all end all for your kid.

Rodeo can be just as bad or worse.Know couple went bankrupt trying to make their daughter a world champion barrel racer.Periodically buying better (more expensive)horses, sending horse to trainer, vet bills out the wazoo.Big truck to pull horse trailer, going to rodeos all over the place.Horses are expensive to keep if they’re just pets.

I have some really good memories of those times also but as I mentioned earlier looking back maybe a few more relaxing family vacations would have been better.

My wife has a niece that has done barrel racing since she was a teen. She is like 30 years old now and still does it. I think the most she has won at one event was like 4k. She and her husband make alot of money together and they have no kids so they travel and have their own horses. I helped them move hay bails one day and after no more visits from me. Those fricking hay bails were no joke.

There's an 02/03 girls team that has been dominating club soccer in Louisiana for many years and has found success on a regional level. Over time it has been able to atract top players from nearby clubs. There's some definite talent on the team and I'm curious to see how many end up playing in college.

If they would take all the money spent on travel ball and invest it, they would be able to pay for Jaxson’s college by the time he graduated HS

If they play in the national tournaments and do well they will given a real good chance at major colleges. These tournaments along with ID camps gives them plenty of exposure and as I mentioned earlier the elite girls can almost guarantee a full ride scholarship.

dont get it. I mean local leagues yea but traveling from places like Illinois and Texas to play ball in Omaha seems stupid
I'm A travel ball soccer coach and I think a lot of these people are flat out retarded with travel.
There are so many teams to beat in-state and there's no reason to go all over the damn place. Development is the key. These parents think their kid will get signed because some coach will see them playing in a high level tournament... so the spend a shitload of time and money taking that chance. It doesn't happen.
Want to make it? Find someone who can educate and develop players, who will also promote them. These people are rare, but they're out there. They're nerds. They breathe the game. Way too many fall for the sales pitch of the big clubs and forego the actual education and development. Scouts and recruiters know these nerds, and find players that work with them.
Baseball I just can't get tho. Even if you get drafted and whatnot, the grind of minor league ball is incredible. I can't fathom doing that.
