will also add that John Smoltz made a personally plea to parents to reconsider the utility of travel ball

It was important enough to him that he carved out time during his Hall of Fame induction speech to make the point...

These parents dont care. Most are failed athletes and do this stuff to live vicariously through their kids. It's so depressing to watch.

No his kid plays travel ball and he needs justification for wasting every summer weekend and about 10k a year on something his kid likely doesn't even want to do anyway but he does because he lives through his son.

I read this again and it doesn't make sense. Before travel ball, every single MLB player in history didn't play travel ball. Is it because before travel ball, there wasn't travel ball?

Name them

Nichols- Kevin Lecompte, Jody Stroud, Dustin Bergeron, Shane Stringer, Jimmy Mazur, and I think Jay Carlos

La Tech - Chad Belanger

Tulane - Brandon Belanger

North Eastern (ULM) - Mike Thompson

Delgado - Eddie Trahan

Pearl River CC - Jason Fonseca, Brandon Howard, and I think Lee Molaison

Pros - Jay Carlos, Brandon Belanger, and I think Lee Molaison

All guys I played ball with through Rec, High School, and American Legion except for Brandon Howard, worked with him briefly and found out he played with Jason Fonseca at Pearl River

There’s other guys I’m pretty sure played college ball but not sure where

Just be aware that there are many constructs in place to prey on the asymetries of folks. Most folks mistake common behaviors for normal. These constructs are made to take advantage of the “common” man (ponder that term). Some of the stuff you are quoting is now common, but it is not normal...

Best of luck to you and your family

I only call it like I see it, but to each his own

That’s a weak list.

I know some of those guys and I can 100% promise you they played at a higher level than just wreck all stars. They either played legion or metro ball before going to college.

Did they play other sports?

That's what you hear a lot of people say. It's best to let your kids play multiple sports.

Baseball is the easiest sport to go pro in. But most people who get drafted don't make it to the big leagues.

There are what? 30 MLB teams. 40 rounds in the MLB draft. That's 1200 players a year.

Parents are fed a bunch of bullshite about how baseball.. it's important to get reps. And the more games a kid gets, the better they can become and don't have to be the best athlete.

Most of the starters in MLB.. There isn't much of a difference between him and the guy he beat out. And there isn't that much difference between than the guy who got beat out and the guy he got promoted over.

I'd love to know the number of kids who play travel end up getting burned out playing baseball, the parents drive the travel ball industry,

True, I do know one kid playing at a big college and another who is being looked at by ULM and La Tech and a few other smaller colleges who never played travel ball

All played legion after high school, I stated that in both my comments, my point was that growing up it was all rec and rec all stars. There were no travel teams or showcases.

As far as my opinion of travel ball, it shouldn’t exist before age 12, and it should be for elite players, and it should be in the summer where it leads up to a true World Series through winning progressive tournaments, and then it should be over until next year.

Disclaimer, I have a 15 year old that I wouldn’t let play travel ball until he was 12, only by that time he loved our extremely rural rec team he’d been playing with since Coach pitch so we never went that route. He still made his high school team full of travel ball kids and while not a starter he’s a solid contributor and is enjoying high school ball.

Travel ball pretty much ends when they turn 12-13. After that its school ball

At a hotel in Omaha for the CWS and there is a travel ball tournament in town and was talking to some of these parents at the bar and holy crap do they blow a lot of money on this crap. And the worst part is these people actually think their kid will make it big too.

Imagine what the kids could achieve in life if the parents put just 10% of that time and money into assuring the kids had the best possible shot at succeeding in academics.

Has swimming been mentioned? AAU more precisely. My 9 year old daughter and baby momma are all about it. Let's see, Detroit, Des Moines, St Louis, Nashville just off the top of my head. Swimming schools at 400 a day whereas these Olympians come in and train 1 on 1. She's my only kid so .....Allie Rae loves it, so I pay. Kid is a fish.

You’re on a roll today.

Isn’t it ironic that you’re taking a jab at a guy earlier in this thread about hitting a nerve, yet here you are starting this thread and continuing on in this thread (and every other travel ball thread made on the OT) writing essays as to why you dislike it and the parents so much.

Why don’t you eat a dick and let people do what they want to do? Who gives a frick what people do in their spare time.

What do you do in your spare time? Let’s dissect that and judge you for your blatant disregard of your wallet.
