I agree. Dogs are overrated. We need more dog abortion clinics.

I've owned nothing but labs for almost all of my life. Great dogs who love unconditionally and aren't any trouble. When we go on trips we bring them to Pet Paradise, they have their own vacation and love it. If you are like the OP and find them to be a pain and want to stick them in a pen in the yard, don't get a dog.

I have two dogs, one of them don't frick around. She has killed birds, a few snakes, a rabbit and some squirrels. The only problem is that she wants to show me what she killed. She came back in and all of a sudden I see her coming with a dead squirrel.
What's wrong with that? Its in some dogs nature to do this.

If I had to live in a big city again, I wouldn't want to have another dog. By big city, I'm talking several million people.
I do have a few acres now, so it is a lot more fun having a dog when he can just roam and shite and piss when he wants to and chase critters and live the best dog life.

One of the worst sharing of thoughts that I have experienced.
You can have a dog and be spontaneous, so long as you train them. You can take long trips if you an afford boarding or are cool enough to have friends. They will not destroy stuff if you exercise them and train them properly. Having a dog does not prevent you from getting a lady, stupid AF. I am more than happy to go out of my to take care of my animals, as they help me in a therapeutic manner and they enrich my life in general. They make me smile more than almost anything.
Sounds like the issue is with your line of thought. Likely speaks more broadly to you as an individual than it does against dogs.

everything you described points to you being a bad dog owner.
all those behaviors in the dog are a direct result of you not knowing how to and wanting to learn to train an animal.
The not being able to do trips and vacations is you not wanting to put effort into a little more planning and paying for the accommodations for your pet.
I'm sure you think you were a fine pet owner. I can assure you that you were not.

I’m not really a pet person in general. Dogs are a hassle and inconvenience. We have 2 right now. I understand people that have them and love them as part of their families but I’ve never felt that way. I don’t know if something is wrong with me.
Growing up we always had dogs but lived next to a highway in the country with no fence. Needless to say most of them died fairly young. Maybe that’s why I’m sort of desensitized.

Nope, I have 2 and the worst that happened was the mutt threw up after eating too fast. She ended up eating it again. I have since got her a different bowl that slows her eating down. Last vacation we took my wife's friend house sit and took care of them. If the wife and I was to take a long weekend getaway, the kids are old enough to cover. It just seems like you suck

Now I love dogs, I have had many in my life. I love all dogs except pit bulls who I despise. Got married, got my wife a dog. our yongest son is light of my life. Unfortunately, Dog is not hypoallergenic. Dog sheds a fricking lot. Son has horrific eczema and has always scratched his face /skin off. trouble sleeping, in obvious duress.
brought him to allergist. Lo and behold he is allergic to dog.
wife immediately tells me getting rid of dog is off the table as is keeping her outside. I tell her the hell it is, we had no idea what he'd be allergic to but his comfort and safety are the top priority. Allergies can get better over time but they can also get worse.
Cue divorce-worthy argument. I give her stipulations of dog grooming (which I already know are not realistic, I give the dog more baths than she does and I barely have any time to do it as it is - plus this dog sheds a fricking lot and we are very busy people) and I proceed to clean every nook and cranny of the house while she sat around trying to reject/rationalize reality.
If I never got the dog this would have never been an issue and my son wouldn't have suffered as he did with the scratching and skin infections and etc that he's dealt with. It isn't the dog's fault; it's mine for getting it. but he's fricking allergic, if the grooming and cleaning doesn't work we're kind of out of options.
We have older sons who take after me and love the dog but are on board with making tough decisions.
I'd say the the biggest thing though is the realization that wife seems to value the dog above all of us.
and THAT pisses me off. women, man...

He gets lots of things to chase after since we live on a greenbelt. Fox, squirrels, possums, etc. Fortunately the squirrels are the only things that come in the yard.
He's also definitely more likeable than most people. Just a big baby.
